John S. Keto, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, in UPMC Shadyside. He was born July 13, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Stephen and Viola Glamp Keto. He married his wife, Ruth Pinkney Keto, 43 years ago, on Aug. 14, 1971. John attended Transfiguration Polish School, Hurst High School and California University of Pennsylvania, and spent 38 years as a math teacher in the Mt. Pleasant Area School District until his retirement in 2001. He also served as treasurer for the Mt. Pleasant Area School Employees Federal Credit Union until 2008. In addition, he served in the Army. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at his cabin with family and friends. He was also a member of the Polish Falcons, Kosciuszko Club and the Standard Shaft Citizens Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Mark (Sarah) Keto, of Ravenna, Ohio, Carin (Dallas) Denman, of Bayville, N.J., and Julie (Dan) Balcerek, of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren, whom he adored, Emma, Anna and Zachary Keto, Christian, Claire and Faith Denman and Ella and Brooke Balcerek; three brothers, Robert (Shirley) Keto, Edward Keto and Dan (Maria) Keto; sisters-in-law, Betty Keto, Sarah Martin, Joan Lubovinsky and June Campbell; brother-in-law, Robert (Peggy) Huffman; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Steve and Stanley Keto; sister, Joann Cramer; brothers-in-law, Edward Martin and Pete Campbell; and mother-in-law, Helen Sutty. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Visitation Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Kosisko as celebrant.
