John Kovalcik Obituary

John B. Kovalcik, 77, of Indiana, Pa., died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Unity Township, a son of the late John and Anna Cernance Kovalcik. He was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1481, B.P.O.E. Lodge 931, VFW Post 1989, the Indiana Ballroom Dancing Club and the Meadowlane Golf Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. A 1950 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he was employed as a supervisor of employment with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Employment Security for 42 years, retiring in 1987. Surviving are his wife, Rita A. Kridle Kovalcik, whom he married May 26, 1956; a son, William J. and his wife, Laura, of Huntsville, Ala.; two granddaughters, Julia and Claire of Huntsville, Ala.; four brothers and two sisters, James and his wife, Donna, of Blairsville, William and his wife, Marge, of Latrobe, Clarence and his wife, Helen, of Blairsville, Raymond and his wife, Elaine, of Blairsville, Evelyn Zappa and her husband, Tony, of Blairsville and Sister Virginia Kovalcik of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BOWSER-MINICH INC. FUNERAL HOME, Indiana, Pa., where a parish wake service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at noon in St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, with military rites provided at the conclusion of the Mass. Interment, St. Vincent Cemetery, Latrobe.
