John Serro Obituary

John J. Serro, 55, of Monroeville, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023. He was born May 6, 1967, in Irwin, one of five children to the late Louis Jr. and Dolores (Hampton) Serro. John was a graduate of Hempfield Area High School, Class of 1985, where he played soccer. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, focusing in business. He forged his business background and love for social settings, becoming a restaurant manager, running the everyday bustling ins and outs of the hospitality industry all over the country, including in New York, Philadelphia and Atlanta, for many years. John most recently worked as a recruiter specializing in the medical field. He was greatly devoted to his friends who were family, and he had a deep love for dogs, especially his best canine companion, Brody. Fond memories of John will forever be captured in our hearts, and his presence will be missed deeply. John is survived by his four siblings, Sandy Casey (Ken), of Irwin, Louis Serro III, of Irwin, Marty Serro (Debbie), of Marietta, Ga., and Doug Serro, of Biglerville, Pa.; nieces and nephews, including Steven, Jonathan, Jennifer, Melissa and Lauren; and countless friends who were a very special part of John's life. Interment will be private at Westmoreland Memorial Park, and a celebration of life will be held in May. All arrangements were entrusted to ASHLEY D. X. NYE CREMATION CARE & FUNERAL HOME INC., 408 Depot St., Youngwood, PA 15697. To leave an online condolence, or to share a memory of John, please visit www.nyefuneralhome.com.

I missed seeing John for a few weeks, and I wondered if he had gone out of town or became ill. I was so saddened to learn of his death. I will certainly miss him and imagine how devastated his family must be to lose him so suddenly. As his next door neighbor, I often talked with him in passing. He was always able to lift my spirits with his fun loving manner. We shared Halloweens every year and helped each other with the planning and execution of trick or treating from the giving side. I will remember him every time I go out to my car or work in the yard. He was special in my heart as he looked out for my welfare and safety. I knew he had my back.
He was just a great guy and a good neighbor, and I offer my sincere condolences to his family.
