Mary Piper Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Weaver Piper, 94, of Latrobe, Cook Township, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born Oct. 2, 1915, in Latrobe, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth Noble Weaver. Mary was a member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Latrobe. Mary was preceded in death by her husband after 51 years of marriage, Merle W. Piper, May 24, 1984; a daughter, Helen Scanlon, Sept. 27, 2003; a granddaughter, Rachel Piper, Feb. 1, 1986; a great-grandson, Chad Scanlon, May 25, 2007; four brothers, Clair, George "Buzz," Thaine "Pete" and John Weaver; and a sister, Beatrice Piper. She is survived by 12 children, Audrey Terra, of Ketchum, Idaho, Richard Piper (Eileen), of Latrobe, Edna Morales (Raul), of Hawthorne, Nev., Cleveland Piper (Alice), of Latrobe, Paul Piper, of Pleasant Unity, Diana Jones, of Latrobe, Rosemary Pick (Eytan), of Dix Hills, N.Y., Dennis Piper (Pam), of Greensburg, Karen Olczak (James), of Youngstown, Bruce Piper (Toni), of Latrobe, Merle Piper (Rina), of Latrobe, Mary Ann Heming (Ron), of Latrobe; and son-in-law, Jim Scanlon, of Latrobe; 46 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Ruth Hostoffer, of Mt. Pleasant, Peg Riffle, of Ligonier, and Jean Murdoch, of Ligonier; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at L. BOYD SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC., Donegal. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. Wayne Gillespie officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Mary to Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 647 Bethel Church Road, Latrobe, PA 15658.
