Peter Opar Obituary

Peter M. Opar, 94, formerly of Upper St. Clair, a loving husband and proud father, died after a short illness Monday, Oct. 23, 2017. Born in Jeannette, Pete attended aviation school in Western Pennsylvania. In 1944, he was hired by All-American Aviation as an airplane mechanic. He was proud to be one of the original "AM 49ers" when the company began passenger service in 1949. Decades later, the airline evolved into US Airways. Pete loved going to work during his 42 years of service before retiring in 1986. During his retirement, he discovered his passion for golf after joining the St. Louise de Marillac golf league. He loved his weekly golf road trips to western Pennsylvania courses with his golf buddies, usually ending up at the "Yugo Club" to share in fellowship with his signature Pepsi. You could always find him at 11 a.m. Mass, serving as an usher for many years since joining the parish in 1965. Pete is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean; children, Peter Jr. (Janet), Pam (Charlie), Kathy (Joe), Mark (Patty) and Cindy (Bob); 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Pierce; his parents, Julia and Nicholas Opar; and seven siblings, John, Mary, Michael, Demetrius, Catherine, Julia and Ann.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Louise de Marillac Church. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

I remember the trips that we made to Fairfax to visit with Uncle Pete and Aunt Jean and family. Baba, Gigi, mom dad and whatever kids fit in the car. It was like a camping trip. Condolences to all the family I am sorry that I can not be there. Love Judy

I also shared time with Pete and Jean in our Senior Champion Program. Pete's love of and devotion to his family shown through in all he did.He proudly shared photos of all of his children and grand children.

He loved golf and of course baseball where his grandson is a pitcher.

Pete will be missed and I will always treasure my memories of him.

As a volunteer in the Senior Champions Program, I was able to work with Pete and his wife, Jean. He was a very loving, gentle man who was a friend to all. I will miss his kindness and his sense of humor.
He was also the best sportsman in the group.

I met Pete through the St Louise Men's Golf League. He was in the foursome I played with my first round in the league 12 years ago. He was an amazing golfer for a player of his age. Every shot was right down the middle - not the longest but never in trouble. He was a true gentleman and an inspiration to all of us who knew him. When he moved away a couple of years ago it left a noticeable hole in the league - both on the course and at the dinners afterwards.

We will miss him and will never forget him.

Mr. Opar was our neighbor. He always had a kind smile and an interesting story or two to tell about his former line of work and this neighborhood, before our time here. Our thoughts are with his lovely wife, Jean, and with his loving family. Pete was a true gentleman; he will be fondly remembered by all his friends in Rolling Meadows.

It was a privilege to have Pete and Jean as participants of the Senior Champions Respite Program. Pete was a kind man with a great sense of humor and joy for life. He loved to share stories about his children, his career, golf, the Steelers, and more recently the Padres, converting us all to fans and keeping us informed about all games (even the stats). We knew when they played because he was sleepy from having a late night watching the west coast game the previous night! Pete was a man of such integrity and it came through in all of his relationships at the center. People were drawn to him and his kindness was evident. In the Intergenerational Program with the children, which he loved, he looked forward to sharing his wisdom during 1 to 1 sessions, doing projects, and even being rolled into a ghost with toilet paper for Halloween. One of his last requests of me was to purchase some rubber horseshoes to play inside with the new men in the program. He created a small men's group within the larger group which everyone loved! He was a spiritual man and loved nothing more than God and his family. He was so proud of all of his children and grandchildren...we heard many stories that expanded over many years.
He was a gift and a blessing to us all and he will be greatly missed.
