Robert M. Schwerin

Robert M. "Schween" Schwerin, of Squirrel Hill, 80, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023. Bob was the cherished son of the late Ernest and Adrienne (Sedler) Schwerin. He was blessed with a circle of dear friends, including Ken and Liz Mrazik, Mike White, Emmy Sullivan, Peter Hart and the late Chuck Adomites. Bob is a proud graduate of the Taylor Allderdice High School Class of 1961. Bob demonstrated his commitment to service through his enrollment in the Army Reserves from 1966 to 1971. Following his time in the Army Reserves, Bob embarked on a career with the Post-Gazette sports department as a stringer from 1979 to 2020. His work allowed him to combine his love for sports with his keen eye for detail and storytelling. His contributions to the department were highly appreciated and he will be remembered for his professionalism and commitment to his craft. Bob was an avid reader. He amassed a collection of more than 900 hardbound books that spanned various genres and topics. In addition to his passion for reading, Bob was a great lover of the arts and culture. He often traveled to New York City to enjoy Broadway shows, immersing himself in the captivating world of theater. Bob was a regular patron of Champs and the Murray Avenue Grill, both located in Squirrel Hill. His presence at these local establishments was a constant, and he was known for his friendly demeanor and engaging conversations. Friends are welcome from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, at the PATRICK T.
