Andrew Gentile Obituary

Andrew B. Gentile, 93, of Arnold, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born June 23, 1918, in Johnetta, son of the late Francesco and Dominica "Minnie" (DiMaio) Gentile. He was preceded in death by by his first wife, Agnes (Marsilio) Gentile, in 1996; a brother, James Gentile; and two sisters, Mary Pellegrino and Jennie Simak. He was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. Mr. Gentile was a maintenance supervisor for Walzer's Cleaners in New Kensington for 25 years and also worked as a plumber, electrician and did general repair work. He was a member of Spartaco Club, New Kensington, and VFW, Lower Burrell. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling and bocce, and also enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Gentile also was a World War II Navy Veteran. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Violet (Perriello) Gentile; three sons, Frank Gentile, of New Kensington, Dennis (Edith) Gentile, of Lower Burrell, and Michael (Barbara) Gentile, of New Kensington; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony Gentile and Francis Gentile, both of New Kensington; sister, Theresa Miecznikowski, of New Kensington; sister-in-law, Tina Potts, of Springdale; brother-in-law, Frank (Lil) Angell, of Ohio; and many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the GIUNTA-BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME INC., family owned and operated for more than 60 years, 1509 5th Ave., Arnold. Prayers of transfer will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
