Philip Gelacek Obituary

Philip "Fizz" Gelacek, 84, of Rayburn died Friday (Oct. 8, 2004) at UPMC St. Margaret, Pittsburgh.

He was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Ford City and was a lifelong resident of Rayburn. A World War II veteran, he was a corporal in the Army and served in the Pacific Theater. He retired from PPG Industries in Ford City. Mr. Gelacek was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church, the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Kittanning. He was an avid sports fan. Survivors include two sons, Paul M. Gelacek of Dublin, Ohio, and Dr. Philip A. Gelacek of Freeport. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jacey, Morgan, Zachary and Evan Gelacek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sagrati Gelacek, in 1994; a grandson, Gregory Gelacek; his parents, Philip and Veronica Hanana Gelacek; and a brother, Andrew "Slick" Gelacek. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the MANTINI FUNERAL HOME INC., 701 Sixth Ave., Ford City. Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with the Rev. Raphael Glinkowski officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, East Franklin.
