Wanda Hurst Obituary

Wanda (Dolmayer) Hurst, 79, of New Kensington, peacefully passed Wednesday morning, Jan. 16, 2019, surrounded by family, after a long, steadfast battle with multiple myeloma. She was born March 2, 1939, in Freeport, to Michael and Stella Dolmayer (Wesolosky). After graduating Freeport High School (1957), she attended Citizens School of Nursing to become an RN in 1961. On Jan. 27, 1962, she married her husband of 47 years, John B. Hurst. Together, they spent the following four years living abroad in El Salvador and England, creating friendships that would last a lifetime, before ultimately moving back to the States to be near family and beginning her lifelong career at Citizens General Hospital in New Kensington. As an operating room nurse at Citizens, she was known for bringing peace and comfort to those in times of greatest uncertainty. She cherished the family of peers she worked with there. Throughout life, she enjoyed traveling through the States and Europe. She loved time spent with her children and grandchildren, and was drawn to the arts of cross-stitch, sewing and baking. She was prolific with her stitching and carried the theme through life. Like the many fibers that created her work, she stitched loose threads through the family to bring people together. Her handcrafted gifts will always hold her memory. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Hurst; and siblings, Michael, Jack, Tom and Patricia (Steele) Dolmayer. She is survived by her three children, Cynthia (Daniel) Krowsoski, John (Laura) Hurst and Michael (Michele) Hurst; eight grandchildren, Bethany and Joe Krowsoski, Brittany Carlyle (Hurst), Emily, Heather and Jonathan Hurst and Michael and Madison Hurst; and her great-granddaughter, Annabeth Carlyle. In addition, she is survived by her much-beloved brother, Henry (Jody) Dolmayer; and many nieces and nephews.
No public viewings will be held and burial is private.
Letters or notes of consolation and support can be mailed to her family---and in lieu of any gifts, the family asks that donations be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. To send a condolence, visit www.redmondfuneralhomeinc.com.
