There was never enough time at our family gatherings to talk with Doug. It seemed everyone wanted to visit with him.

As a 'younger' cousin, I remember mostly the games we played in the evenings at Grandma and Grandpa's house - tag, hide and seek, but mostly, kick the can. Even thinking about those days, I can smell the heavy evening air of Nebraska, hear the shouts and laughter of all the cousins. Doug leaves us with precious memories. We'll miss him.
With love.

Dear Mary and Family, I was so sad to learn of Doug's death this morning. You all seemed to share so much joy and enthusiasm for life together, but I know you struggled hard through his illness and treatment, too. His life blessed many lives. We will remember him with love at the Revels on the 14th. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I was so sad to learn of Doug's death. He was one of my most favorite patients ever and the world won't be the same without him. He inspired me with his determination to live his life with his disease as a secondary concern.
