Larry Soos Obituary

Larry J. Soos July 9, 1939 - June 26, 2007 Larry passed away at home with his family at his side after a long battle with melanoma. Larry was born to Julius and Regina Soos in Chicago, IL. After serving in the Air Force at McChord AFB, Larry decided to make Tacoma his home. Larry worked for National Auto Parts for 5-1/2 years before getting a job at Tacoma City Light. Larry was a Senior Wire Electrician when he retired after 27-1/2 years. One of Larry's favorite things to do was to fix, rebuild and invent things. If something was broken and there wasn't a tool to fix it, he'd make one. We always said he could "Fix anything but a crack in the moon and a broken heart!" Many times in life, people would call or come over just so they could borrow a tool after Larry taught them how to use it. Larry enjoyed watching the Seahawks, playing blackjack at the casino, breakfast with the Saturday morning gang, lunch with his retired buddies, having dinner with his "harem" and just being with his family. Larry had never met a stranger. He would be in California, Reno, Vegas or Home Depot, and he would see someone he knew, say "Hi", tell them a joke, and always remembered their name. Larry must have known every joke that was ever told, and memorized them all. Those of us who were lucky enough got to hear "Archibald Assholman" once or twice! Larry always knew how to have a good time, from "Doing the Lar" on the dance floor, to showing people how a "Pollock pulls up his socks". His helping hand, knowledge, kindness and generosity will be missed, and we are lucky to have had our lives touched by him. Larry is loved by his wife of 42 years, Mary Ann, 2 children, Tami Hiatt (Ben) of Tacoma, Terry Soos (Cyndi Hodge) of Puyallup, brother James E. Soos (Suzanne) of North Carolina, and 6 amazing grandchildren, Tyler, Bryah, Katey, Kayla, Forrest and Marshall. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Elinda Anderson of MultiCare Hospice, with her huge heart, wonderful sense of humor, and positive outlook on life. She helped Dad enormously in the last few months. When I talked to my dad about a funeral or memorial, he said "Nothing sad, I want you to have a party, Beer and Tomato Juice for everyone!" Please join us for a CELEBRATION OF LIFE HONORING LARRY SOOS on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the home of Tami and Ben Hiatt, 4215 64th St. E., Tacoma, 98443 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MultiCare Hospice, PO Box 5200, Tacoma, WA 98415.

To all the Soos family.
So very sorry for your loss, Larry was a great guy. I know he will be missed by so many. Always ready with a story. One hell of a mechanic. In his younger days, quite a dancer.
Memory will have to serve all of his loved ones he left behind, and I'm sure you will have some good ones to remember.
Prayers and strength are sent to you at this time of sorrow.
God's blessings to each and every.

It seems just months not years ago that we roamed the halls of Barringon High School. I sometimes wonder how we actually managed to attend class and graduate. Larry never changed, he was the same from the first time we met him until the last. He was one of a kind!

I was just notified and was in shock. I've lived in Hawaii for the past 4 1/2 years and have lost contact with alot people. My deepest thoughts go to the whole family. We had such great times with Larry and Mary ann at those high school parties at there home.Seeing Larry's smile at the casinos or just stopping by for a cold beer at the North End Tavern. To Tami and Terry I wish the best and Im so sorry for your lost.

Larry,
I hope this message finds you resting well in the perfect afterlife with every tool known to man including ones we haven't thought of yet.
I know we haven't spoke in over 20 years but I have many fond memories. You fixed my cars so many times I can't begin to remember all of them. I'm glad the bill got lost in the mail somewhere. Thank you for all of that.
Mary Ann, Tami, Terry & family my thoughts are with you.

Larry never missed a high school reunion and all in the class were anxious to see him and hear all the new stories. We loved seeing him at the mini-reunion at Sandy and Al Meyer's. The Archibald story I believe was captured on tape by Sandy Schroeder. When we get together in 2009, Larry will continue to be part of the Class of "59, and we will raise our glasses in his memory. Dick and I were part of the Wyoming group. How wonderful that we called just before he passed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Larry's family. He will be missed.

I will always remember Larry having the fridge stocked with "Rainier" whenever I came to visit. Also, the early "quite early" morning breakfasts. Larry was the kind of man you wanted your sister married to and will be missed.

When I think of Larry, I can do nothing but put a huge smile on my face. He was truly a prince of a man and will be missed by all who've known him. I have many fond memories of Christmas Eve Black Jack tourneys and even a few Reno Nights at the Elks. Mary Ann, Tami and Terry, I am so very sorry for your loss. I wish you love and strength during this most difficult time.

Larry, I am sure going to miss you . You were a great neighbor and a Dear Friend. You were a great father image to many who knew you especially Roger. He had the most respect for you.He learned alot from you. It was great how you could call one another if he needed help with something you were there. If you needed a hand he was there. I was kinda mad when you moved because I had no one to pump up my lawn mower tire or fix something for me . I would have to wait till Roger got home. But then again we have your wonderful family so its ok.You have touched so many people. You will be missed....Love Cindy and Rog
