Not a day goes by that I don't think about grandpa. What a force of a man. I only wish that he had gotten to meet his great granddaughter. I hope he and grandma are sitting on a beach somewhere.

Grandpa was my favorite human. I have so many cherished memories. From riding on his back when he swam his laps, to his silver dollar pancake buffet, to him slipping a $20 in my pocket whenever I left his house........I will miss his laugh. His 13 sneezes in a row. His magnificent hugs and huge heart. We were so blessed to have him in our lives for so long. I always thought we had a special relationship. I think he had a special relationship with everyone who knew him.

RIP Gramps. I love you.

I remember getting to know Nick when we had our restaurant on 6th Avenue The district prowl car would usually stop by daily and when he would come in there was always joy in his voice. Later I joined TPD and got to work with him, which was a joy. We would talk about the restaurant as well as the tavern in Old Town. He was always a welcome fixture at our retirement meetings. May he Rest In Peace.

The other day when alot of leaves had fallen from my trees I looked out my kitchen window, as I had done so many times in the past, for my favorite senior Nick but he was not there. He would sweep leaves or whatever needed sweeping and I would find my broom and dust pan and join him. The broom he was using that last couple of months looked like it was made 70 years ago or so. We upgraded to a better broom. Years ago I collected him in my car and he fit in in spite of how tall he was and we went for a drive around the neighborhood. I learned all of the locations where there were meat markets, and where he lived and where there was a hardware store. We enjoyed a breakfast out at the Pinecone years ago and on another occasion he gave me a real life summary of some of his military responsibilities. The reality of Nick not being around for me came on that Monday a few days ago when I lost my excitement for raking leaves and when I found a donut at work that I was excited about bringing to him for a treat because at his age a donut or a cookie or a piece of cake was not going to cause him any health issues. I will cherish our talks on the porch, his visits while I mowed the lawn and seeing him basking in the sunshine all tan and happy. I am a very lucky person to have found such a quality individual to be my neighbor for 32 years.

I became of member of the Tacoma Police Dept in 1976. I worked with several different partners during my career there and I can honestly say that Nick Nickolas was the best. He was honest, friendly, funny, and patient. I miss him.

I remember Uncle Nick as the kindest soul I´ve ever met and funny one example is when he showed me this toy parrot that would talk back to you he got such a kick out of this . He always asked me did I want something to eat it was like I was the most important person in his eyes . To me that why I and everyone loved him
