Robert Cavin Obituary

Robert Lyle (Bob) Cavin Longtime Fife resident and business owner, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2007. He was born February 15, 1939 in Tacoma. Bob graduated from Fife High School and went on to attend UPS. He was employed by Dick Johnson's Shell Service, Fife; Penberthy Instrument of Seattle; Boeing Co., Seattle; and Northwest Door of Tacoma before he was hired by Standard Oil of California in 1962. In 1968 he became a Chevron Dealer and ran two stations in Fife: Bob's Chevron and Bob's Self Serve, until his retirement in 1998. Bob was a Fife Fire Commissioner from 1983 to 1989 and a member of the Fife Lions Club and Puyallup Elks for many years. Bob was a great old-car enthusiast and had just finished lovingly restoring his 1956 Buick Special. He enjoyed caring for his home and garden overlooking Commencement Bay, traveling, and making winter trips to Arizona to visit friends. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna, daughter Constance Cavin-Little (Timothy), son Christopher Cavin (Dawn), and grandchildren Brittany, Gabrielle, Tyler, Jordan, and Travis. He is also survived by his brother Chris, sisters Janet, Mary, and Connie, all of the San Francisco Bay area. At Bob's request, no services will be held. Cremation will be by New Tacoma Cemeteries and Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or cards, donations may be made to the Robert L. Cavin Scholarship fund for Fife High School students. Donations can be made at any Washington Mutual Bank. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at his home in Browns Point on September 15, 2007 from 2pm-5pm.

Donna, Connie and family,

It was sad hear of the passing of your husband and father. I happened to connect recently with Connie via email, over 20 years from when I knew your family and I remember Bob to be a committed and caring father and husband. His children certainly were a reflection of what a quality person that he was. He always was positive and supportive and very proud of them. I appreciate the relationship that I had with your family and want you to know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers. May God Bless you all.

I was fortunate enough to have worked for Bob from 81 to 84. The employment he and Donna gave me enabled me to finish school and start my life. I got a chance to say this to Bob back in May. It was something I had wanted to do for years.

It matters not the value of our purse when we die, but what it has held and how people remember its contents.

Gods speed Bob Cavin, you will be missed by many......

Donna & family, we are so sorry to read about Bob's passing. I'm so glad at least to have seen him and you at the Fife gathering in Sun City West. We are currently vacationing in Norway and I was scanning the internet when I learned about Bob. If there is anything I can do please don't hesitate to ask. We'll be home the 6th of September.

In sympathy,

Joel & Gerd

Bob will forever be in our thoughts and memories. He was a good friend who brought out the best in people. With his famous "What's the deal", people would immediately warm up and feel right at home. He will be missed.
