LYLE HATCHER Obituary

October 11, 1934 to June 7th, 2014

Early Saturday morning, June 7th, Lyle Leonard Hatcher, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully with family by his side.

A Memorial Service will be at Cathedral of Joy on Saturday, June 14, at 2 pm.

Lyle was born October 11th, 1934 in Loveland, Iowa to Leonard and Lola Hatcher. Lyle would be their 2nd of 9 children. Lyle grew up farming with his father and as a youngster attended a one room school house with most of his fellow students being his brothers and sisters. Lyle attended Missouri Valley High, where he was a football standout. His hopes of playing in the state championship ball game never came to pass, as he was injured in a tractor accident that ended his football career. Like any good cowboy, he got right back on and in his later years you would often see him on that smoking old tractor, grandkid in tow with a smile and a wave for passersby.

Lyle worked the stockyards in Omaha, served his country in the United States Army in peacetime, worked with Burlington Northern Railroad, American Airlines and Univac/Unisys at the Federal Building. His career had him working with computer systems in the early days of mainframe computers. He was one of the best in his field, installing and maintaining these machines.

Lyle married Janet Weamer March 18th, 1966. They raised 2 children, Linda and Leonard. During these years, work took him many places including New York, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, California, and Germany. Eventually they ended up in the Tri-Cities with a new opportunity and Lyle set to finding a place with some land so that he could do a bit of farming on the side. They happily settled in a home with some acreage in Burbank, WA in 1977. The family would laugh when Lyle purchased yet another "twig" to plant in their yard, and soon began the Hatcher Orchard. The home is now surrounded by 100's of fruit-bearing trees of all varieties that Lyle loved to share with one and all.

Lyle was also well known for being the greatest Grandpa that a kid could hope for. He loved his 3 grandchildren and was always eager to be Grandpa to their friends as well. Rarely did he miss a game, performance or event, always easy to spot with that big ol' cowboy hat and a smile and a cheer.

Janet passed away Jan 4, 2009. A great sadness gripped his heart, as the love of his life for 43 years, was no longer at his side. Seeking to fill the hours with companionship and friends - he returned to square dancing and there met, and fell in love with, Bonnie Scherger. After proposing multitudes of times she finally said yes as he parked beside a huge field of white swans on migration and said, "THIS is the Perfect Time and Place to ask for your hand." They were married March 5, 2010. Lyle met his heart mate. They shared the same love of God, horses and trees.

His last years were filled with Love and Laughter and Rodeos...as they say, "bittin' the dust."

Lyle is survived by: his wife Bonnie Hatcher, her 2 sons, Elijah and Chris and 2 daughters, Sophia and Mahlonna, who loved, admired and considered Lyle as, Cowboy Dad!, Lyle's Daughter and family, Linda and James McCullough and Grandchildren; Lauran and Will Wang, Trent and Emma McCullough, and Alison McCullough and son Leonard and Robin Jacobson Hatcher and Granddaughter, Ryan. He is also survived by siblings: Gladys and Ken Saar, Lola and Bob Allen, Harold and Beverly Hatcher, Kathy and John Limpp, Kenny and Debbie Hatcher and Sister-in-Law, Phyllis Hatcher.

He is Preceded in death by wife Janet Weamer Hatcher, his parents: Leonard and Lola Hatcher and brothers, Robert and Carl Hatcher. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.

Raised on a farm as a child gave him the love of growing and raising horses and working Mother Nature's Earth. Lyle's working career was above all, one of his loves, but never over his family and friends. Lyle will be missed by all that he touched. Knowing him was an honor and loving him...well, it was an ADVENTURE!!!
