William Schulz Obituary

William Ray Schulz

May 17, 1943 - October 7, 2024

Kennewick, Washington - In his own words, Ray was "a kind, considerate, generous, easy to get along with and a heck-of-a nice guy." He went to school in Prosser and always said, "The three of the best years of his life were spent in the 4th Grade." He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 - 1965. He was a Teamster, Ironworker, Master of Kennewick Masonic Lodge 153, President of Columbia Basin Shrine, Venerable Master of Scottish Rite, Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, and a 36-year member of A.A. He participated in the Legion of Honor, Kiwanis of Kennewick, Safe Harbor Support Center and Bikes-4-Books. He had a remarkably deep voice, boisterous laugh, short temper and an opinion on just about everything. He leaves behind two brothers, Jack and Ken, one daughter, Kristina, and his dog, Scamper. His greatest pride and joy was his grandchild, Ava Ray. In lieu of a memorial service, donations can be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Spokane.

Ray was instrumental in me becoming a Shriner. He took me to Spokane for that event. He was a good friend and I´ll miss him. I´ll keep a photo of him.

Ray lived a few doors down, in the Mobile Home Park that we lived. He would always stop and say hi on his dog walks and when he drove through the park, if my kids were outside, they would run to his car-just to get a piece of candy. They always referred to him as the "candy man." He loved teasing my girls, one year when we came by trick-o-treating, he gave my youngest a can of peas! Of course he got the reaction that he was going for. Ray was a character for sure, my family and I, were blessed to have known him.

Thank you Mr. Ray for reminding me to slow down when driving through your neighborhood -- seriously! Will miss you.

Ray and I had a special relationship. It all started when I helped him sell Columbia Basin Shrine Club raffle tickets at the El Katif Shrine circus in Spokane. You will be missed.

I sure love you, Worshipful Brother Ray! You are already missed, but I am happy for you. You have fought the brave fight. May you rest with your Lord.

What a great guy. He and my late great husband always shared a story and a laugh.
