Kevin O'Brien Obituary

TROY- Kevin James O'Brien passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 20, 2023 in Miami, Florida after a long illness. He was born in Troy, NY on October 14, 1957, and is the son of the late James M. O'Brien and Joyce Phoenix O'Brien. Attending Troy Schools, Kevin was involved in numerous sports, especially football, even playing semi-pro for the Metro Mallers later in life. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1976 and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force where he enjoyed his time while stationed in Hawaii. Kevin held numerous retail positions in the area; however, his sense of adventure eventually landed him in Key West, Florida in 2004 with his wife Pamela. There, with the sunshine, ocean and tropical weather, he savored the relaxed life of the island. He worked in retail for 17 years at Sloppy Joe's Bar where he loved talking to people from all over the country. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports, especially the New York Yankees. Football was also a sport he followed closely, often rooting for the Dolphins, Browns and many underdogs. When not watching sports, Kevin loved to relax with his furry companion, Lily, on his porch while listening to his favorite music. Music was a large part of his daily life and he enjoyed talking about and listening to a wide variety of classic rock musicians and bands.Kevin leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Pamela, and her son Scott Pettit of Green Island, his brother Eric O'Brien of Troy, his sister Nicole (Jeff) Pelletier of Averill Park, his niece Lauren Pelletier of Averill Park and his brother Bill Grinnell of Virginia Beach, V.A. He is also survived by his aunt, Rita O'Brien of Marion, Illinois as well as many cousins and Key West friends. At the family's request, there will be no funeral services.https://www.allenandshawcremations.com/ https://www.lastingmemories.com/kevin-james-obrien

I had the pleasure of working for a couple of years with Kevin at Denbys in Troy back in the late 70s. I was very green and Kevin taught me all of the ropes, he was very patient with me since it was my first real job. Those Denby days were some of my favorite, especially in the "old" store. Kevin and a couple other characters packed those couple of years with GREAT memories. I´d often wondered what happened to him. May god rest his soul.

Pam there are no words except Kevin was a great person. The stories him and Timmy told they enjoyed life and that speaks volumes to the men they were. I have the most fantastic wedding pics all Tks to Kevin. He will be missed by all who knew him. My heart broke a little more when I found out of his passing. I´m sure him and Timmy and all the others are kicking it up may he Rest In Peace.
