Wilson Moon Obituary

WOODSTOCK, GA.- Moon (Bill), age 73, Woodstock, Ga., loved by many, passed peacefully into eternity surrounded by his family on January 13, 2021. Bill was born on December 11, 1947 in Keene Valley, NY to the late LeRoy F. and Leona E. Moon. After graduating from Troy High School in Troy, NY, Bill completed his BA in Political Science at the University of Florida. He enlisted in the United States Army (December 1969 – December 1975) He honorably served two tours in Vietnam (SP5 ASA VW 1970-71). Later, Bill continued his education at North Georgia University, Dahlonega, GA, where he earned his MA in Physical Education. In the early 70’s, Coach Moon worked at Walton High School as a teacher and coach and then was offered the position as the head baseball coach at the University of Central Florida, Orlando. He then returned to Walton High School where he enjoyed his passion of coaching and teaching. Coach Moon spent many hours helping youngsters at his Hitting School or on a baseball or softball field with his son or daughter. In 1989, Bill went to work for the Cherokee County School District and treasured his role as the PE instructor at Woodstock Elementary School and Arnold Mill Elementary School where he retired in 2012. As he was a student of baseball, the game was his first love until he had a family. Bill played during his time at the University of Florida; at Parsons College in Fairfield, IA; in the Johnny Mize League, Caracas, Venezuela and for the Expos organization. Later in life Bill found the passion of dancing. You could find him teaching the children to dance, learning another genre, perfecting his form, and even competing! Whether it was before school, on the field, or in the classroom, Coach Moon always invested in his players and students. Bill was an extraordinary example of a coach, man, father, and friend; there are simply no words that can describe what he meant to his family. He was a loving brother, father, and Grampa. Bill was always kind, understanding, and incredibly selfless. He enjoyed sharing life lessons, funny stories, sports science, hunting tips, and teachings of the outdoors with his children, friends, grandchildren, and siblings. Left to cherish his memory are children, Kirsten M. Elkins (Robert) and Wilson Tyler Moon (Tamar); grandchildren, Brandon, Bradley, Caroline and Cole; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Mason; siblings, Ronald Paul Moon (Cathy) and Carol Eve Moon; nieces and nephews, Matthew, Jonathan, Benjamin, Patrick, Raleigh, Aubreigh, Holly and Whitney; granddog, Sam; and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by brothers, Christopher Robin Moon, Stephen James Moon, Reginald James Moon; his sister, Peggy Lee; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Sharon Lynn Keotzel Moon Morris, affectionately known to many as Momma Moon. My deepest condolences to the Moon family. I have very fond memories of Coach Moon as my elementary PE teacher at Arnold Mill. I actually referenced him last night to my husband when the song "Hey good lookin" played on our tv. He used to belt it out during PE class! He was a wonderful person and had a special way with students. He will surely be missed.
