Dear Don:
Hard to believe it's been three years since you passed away, and on my birthday, for pete's sake! We were about as close as two guys can be; college roommates, fraternity brothers, fellow scientists, fishermen, best-men at weddings, wine enthusiasts, and too infrequently, house guests from across the country. My wife Phyllis and I think of you and your family often, recalling some crazy event or another that we had shared at the outset. Now, we care for Susan and have to rely more and more on ZOOM chats, as transcontinental travel becomes ever more expensive.
You are the continuous friend whom I have known for the longest, of everybody! Back to September of 1960, but who's counting?
I still have my flyfishing gear--- maybe in some future time you and I can meet up again and wet a line, share a G&T, and remember old friends!
You rock, dude!
Love, from one old codger to another.

I was Don's first graduate student. From him I learned "how to learn". He was a creative scientist, consummate musician, and a wonderful father.

I was Don's first graduate student. What I learned from him has lasted a lifetime. Although it has been many years since we have communicated- his passing leaves a void.

In loving memory of a wonderful person with whom I shared my life during all 4 years of high school plus 1 of college.
My thoughts and prayers will be especially for Susan and Adrienne as well as for Michele and Lorraine.

Don and I met in September 1960 when we entered Johns Hopkins as undergrads. We were classmates, fraternity brothers, roommates, wedding participants, and fishing buddies ever since. He was the guy I knew the longest and I am so very sorry for Susan and the family to have learned of his passing, If it had not been for COVID, we would have recently had a visit to Oregon as well. He and I did some crazy things together, and I will miss him always. Attached is a photo of Don and Susan in 2019 when they visited us here in Beaufort, NC.
