John Kolb Obituary

John Richard Kolb John Richard Kolb passed away peacefully on July 9, 2012. A native Tucsonan, he was born at The Storks Nest on September 5, 1936. His father, Richard Earl Kolb, was a well-respected member of Pima County government, for whom Kolb Road was named. John spent 34 years in the Assessor's Office where he headed Pima County's Residential Property Appraisal Program. He retired in 1993 but made many lifelong friends. John loved his family more than anything. He also loved his desert, hiking, camping, fishing, backpacking and later, road trips. He was generous to a fault and passionate about helping others. The family wishes to thank John's medical team and all staff in Unit 750 at TMC. John is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia; sons, Spencer (Julie) and Matthew and grandchildren, Corey, Tracy and Terri. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ELCA World Hunger, OXFAM, or Doctors Without Borders. John's Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Foothills, 5102 N. Craycroft Rd, 299-5631. John and I were best friends since 1948. We shared growing up, our parents, travelling, movies, scuba diving, many very private personal chats and always humour. Laughing with and about ourselves remains my favourite buddy Kolb adventure and memory!

Sylvia, there are no words to express how saddened I am to hear about our loss of John. You know how much I love both of you..and what great memories I have of our times together. He was THE BEST! Your love for each other was so strong, he adored you, and you him.. a match made in Heaven!
He was the kindest and gentlest man I ever knew...he always knew exactly what to say to take the edge off any situation, and his sense of humor was immeasurable...right up there with his knowledge of sports. You are in my thoughts and prayers. We will talk later..May God's peace be with you during this time...I love you, Kathy

It doesn't seem real that you are gone from us John. I will miss your wonderful sense of humor. Your strength and positive attitude to the end was amazing. I never once heard you complain. I will miss how you used to love to sit back, sipping on you drink, listening to us girls "girl talk." What an education you got. Us girls, we'll talk about anything, and everything. You so enjoyed that. My life was better having know you John. I love you. Deb & Boy's
