Patricia E. Machelor

1930 - 2024

Patricia (Pat) E. Machelor was born on December 7, 1930 in Lockport N.Y. Her family was with her when she died, on May 6, 2024, at her home in Tucson.



Pat was preceded in death by William (Bill) E. Machelor, her husband of 64 years, as well as by her three older sisters, Ruth, Jean and Dorothy. She is survived by her seven children, Ann (Rick) Hurst, William Machelor Jr., James (Tesa) Machelor, Tara Machelor, David (Cathy) Machelor, Paul (Norma) Machelor and Patty Machelor (Tim Steller), as well as 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.



Pat and her sisters grew up in Lockport with their parents, Thelma and Charles Moran. She went on to attend college in Virginia at the University of Mary Washington, earning a degree in psychology.



Pat loved to play games and was hard to beat at cribbage and Scrabble. She delighted in being in the out-of-doors and cherished trips with her children to the beautiful canyons and wooded areas around Arizona.



She also thoroughly enjoyed time around lakes, particularly Lake Kipawa in Quebec, where Bill and Pat owned a cabin for many years, as well as Lake Memphremagog in Northern Vermont. She was an avid reader, and could often be found with a book open on her lap as the boat drifted and Bill fished.



Pat followed several sports teams and enjoyed coaching, often loudly, from her living room. She had an adventurous spirit, and traveled in South America with her two youngest children and a granddaughter. She also spent time in Kentucky's Appalachian Mountains, helping provide summer programming for children living in poverty. She cherished her memories of a trip to Great Britain with her oldest daughter and son-in-law.



Pat was passionate about her Catholic faith and found great comfort from personal hardship in the quiet of the pews. She worked for years as a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul in both Payson, Arizona, and in Tucson.



Lastly, she was a wonderful cook, a great gardener of tomatoes and, for holidays, always strived to make the perfect apple or blueberry pie. Thanksgiving food preparations were taken very seriously, and Christmas cookies were always abundant.



We miss her tremendously, and our memories of her will be carried in our hearts forever. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Oct. 25 at St. Cyril's of Alexandria Roman Catholic Parish, 4725 E. Pima St., Tucson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
