William MACHELOR Obituary

MACHELOR, William "Bill" Eugene age 90, a native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., died Tuesday morning, February 21, 2017 at Peppi's House Hospice. Bill was a dedicated husband and father who delighted in living. Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia (Pat) Earline (Moran), and their seven children, Ann (Rick) Hurst, William Machelor Jr., James (Tesa) Machelor, Tara Machelor, David (Cathy) Machelor, Paul (Norma) Machelor and Patty Machelor (Tim Steller) as well as 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John (Elaine) Machelor and sister, Joanne (Ron) Moscati as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and sister, Marion Emons. Bill was born February 3, 1927, the third of five children, to Leo and Grace Machelor. He had cherished memories of summers spent at his Uncle Fred's farm in Cuba, N.Y., as well as long hours fishing on the Niagara River. After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, he graduated in 1952 from Syracuse University. He helped start a family business with his brother, Richard, before his longtime career with Holiday Inns Incorporated. Bill was an avid reader, and an imaginative storyteller and writer. He had a great sense of humor and a sharp wit. He loved Big Band music and was often the star of the dance floor. He was fierce at cards, especially euchre and poker, and also enjoyed horseshoes and golf, but his favorite pastime was fishing. Bill spent many days on lakes in Ontario and Quebec, Canada as well as in New York State and New England. Bill will be greatly missed. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. and a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 3201 E. Presidio Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Frances Cabrini's St. Vincent de Paul Society.

When I received the call that Uncle Bill had passed away (I am his niece, Karen, my mother Marion) it was very sad news. Although he had lived many years one never thought he would ever be gone. As a child he gave us so much time and laughter. We always sought out Uncle Bill. What a legacy to leave that so many adored him. When we lost my brother, Billy, he was there with his strength, smile and encouragement. He made it all bearable. He was always there for the other person. To all my cousins who I have not seen in years, to Aunt Pat a big hug and God's blessing.

To the Machelor Family,

Please forgive me for being late, but I just come across this on line over the weekend. It is with a very sadden heart and deep sorrow to read about the passing of your dad, grandfather, husband, brother, (Uncle Bill).

Please know I have such great memories of him, from a child to an adult, seeing him and Aunt Pat back in July 2006 at the family reunion on Grand Island. What a blessing and joy!

Please know my sincere respects, love, and prayers for you. May the Lord's presence be felt now and forever more.

Blessings!

Hey, Pops. Hard to believe it's been a month already. Jim went back to visit all the wonderful staff that helped us during your last days. We miss you, Dad. Wish we could play one more hand or spin around a lake just one more time.

The world lost a wonderful guy when Bill Machelor died. One of the greatest. Bill was a warm, funny guy with a great sense of humor. He was a great fisherman and always knew where those big ones were hiding. I am honored to call him my friend.
It was Bill who shared great lines like,
I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous.
Sears stands behind everything they sell, except, of course, their manure spreaders.
There was a woman knocking on my door until three in the morning, I finally got up and let her out.
If this rain keeps up, it won't come down.
God bless Bill Machelor, he was the greatest!

To the Machelor Family, I was saddened when Jim Landrio, owner of the Holiday Inn in Johnstown NY told me that Bill had passed away. I worked with him at Holiday Inn - HSD & he was one of my sales reps that I was responsible for supporting & he was by far my "favorite". Always so nice & kind & helpful, never gave me any problems at all. And he was the only one on a personal level that I let call me "Debbie":-), that was only reserved for my family but dear Bill was my work family. He lived a long & good life & I know you will treasure the memories forever. Praying for your family during this difficult time.
Much Love,
Deborah Strange - McBride
