Penelope Anne Porter, 81, passed away peacefully on February 15th 2024 at her home in Tucson, surrounded by her loved ones and caregivers. Penny is survived by her sister Christa Porter of San Jose, California, as well as countless friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.Born on November 14th 1942 in Newton Iowa, Penny was a beacon of strength and caring to all who knew her. She lived her life with a boundless love for animals, a tireless work ethic, and a unwavering focus on helping the less advantaged that touched the hearts of everyone she met.Penny achieved her dream of being able to care for animals by being one of the few women to graduate as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 1969. She went on to open and operate several successful veterinary practices in Tucson and the surrounding area as an entrepreneurial business woman and mentor to many.Penny's parents were artists by trade who had many hobbies in arts and crafts, which she pursued with skill and enthusiasm. Whether she was creating Christmas ornaments, glass beads, or decorating, her skill and appreciation for the arts always shown brightly.Above all, Penny cherished her family and friends including her secondary family; her clinic staff, clients, but most of all the animals. She was a devoted sister, daughter, friend, and mentor, always ready with a listening ear, and a shoulder to lean on. She leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity that will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.In her memory, let us carry forward the lessons she taught us — to love those around us, especially animals, to be generous and help the less advantaged, and to live fully every moment we are given.A celebration of Penny's life will be held at the home of her friends Bill and Joe from 2pm to 5pm on the 21st of April 2024.
