Peter Mazur Obituary

Peter Edward Mazur A wonderful father, husband, and the youngest of nine children was lost to cancer on December 21, 2007. He emigrated from Poland to the United States to join his family in Croswell, Michigan in August 1938 through Ellis Island. He served our country during WWII in Hethel, England. He was a radio operator in B24 Bombers in the 389th Air Division in the 8th Air Force. He flew 25 missions. The Battles and Campaigns he supported were in Southern France, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Air Offensive Europe. His decorations and citations were for the American Theatre, and European-African-Middle Eastern. He was awarded 5 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct, Distinguished Unit Badge, and a WWII Victory Medal. He trained at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and returned to Tucson following the war to make his own home. He started a lifelong career in automotive repair and opened Pete's Auto Repair in 1956. His sons Rick and Ed joined him in the family business after High School. He retired in 2001 due to illness and enjoyed his retirement at the Casinos in Tucson, Laughlin, and Las Vegas, where his luck continued as it did in the bombers. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Espinoza Mazur, son and daughter-in-law Richard and Tina Mazur, granddaughters Kelly Mazur and Brenda Gountis, Brenda's husband Angelo and great-grandchildren Gallia, Fiona, and Inara Gountis, his daughter Helga and Jim Wachholz and great-grandchildren Nathan and Sydney. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Mazur, due to cancer in 1998 and his first two wives, Merle R. Mazur and Margaret T. Mazur. His honesty and caring for others in his business for over 50 years led to many good friends along the way. His son, Richard Mazur, carries on that honesty and caring for their customers to this day. The family appreciates and thanks you for all your prayers and good thoughts at this time. You can pay your respects to him at a Visitation on December 26, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, Tucson, AZ. I am one of the sons of Mary Andres. I always loved the trips all of the Mazurs.

I believe Uncle Peter was the last of my mother's uncles from that side of her family. I know she was trying to get out to visit him after they spoke numerous times on the phone. I didn't know he was ill and my condolences go out to his family.
