Robert Gilbert Obituary

Robert Alan Gilbert, 54, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023, from cancer. He was born on August 13, 1969, in Tucson, to Roy A Gilbert, Sr and Helen M (Kalakay) Gilbert. Robert is survived by his daughter Ramsey Ann and his siblings Cherryl, Helen, Mike, and Clay. His brother, Roy Jr, passed away in 2009.

Robert attended school in the Tanque Verde District and graduated from Sabino High in 1987. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned a very successful Drywall business for 20 years. Later he operated a Care Home at the Gilbert family home on the east end of Speedway. Robert was known for his hard work, keen business sense, and inquisitive nature.

Robert had many interests including sports, fishing at the lake and movies where the underdog triumphs. He had a big heart, a quick wit, and invited friendly banter. Robert was considered a gentle giant by most and he will be missed beyond measure. Love you more.

Gilbert was one of my oldest and closest friends dating back to elementary school. I truly regret not seeing him as much as I wanted to over the years. He was absolutely one of the smartest guys I've ever known. The wit and humor he could produce at a moments notice was incredibly natural for him. He was a good friend (one of my best), and a great dad. I will miss you Rob, and I look forward to seeing you again someday my friend!

Growing up next door to the Gilberts was an adventure. An awesome one at that. Iremember swimming in their pond before we had a pool built. Robb was a man you could always count on no matter what. And how he loved Ramsey. Father extroidnaire. There are no words that can comprehend the loss to all of us. God Spped Robbie!

So sorry for your loss. I went to school with Robert, only knew him as Robby back then. From Tanque Verde to Emily Gray through Sabino. Last I saw Robby was senior year at some party. We were only school friends but I considered him a good friend. Played some baseball with him as well. Had a wickedly fast and equally wild fastball!!! Always laughed when we would run into each other. Sincere condolences.
