Sally Jane Ely

Sally Jane Ely 73, passed quietly on May 23, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona, after battling cancer over the last few years. Sally is survived by her mother, Jane; sons, Michael and Timothy; daughter, Kimberly; sisters, Joanne, Phoebe, Suzanna, Barbara and Debbie; grandchildren, Gregory and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Logan, Kylie and Bryson. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, David; sister, Carolyn and father, William Duty. Sally was born January 31, 1938 in Wellsville, Ohio to William and Jane (Maclean) Duty. She moved to Nogales, AZ in 1948 with her family and stepfather, Wade Carpenter. She graduated from Nogales High School in 1956. Shortly after their move to Tucson to work as a phone operator, Sally married David Ely, who was serving in the Air Force, on August 3, 1957. Sally and David lived in various locals including, Italy, Greece, North Dakota and Texas. They moved back to Arizona in 1977, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Sally loved traveling, cruising, entertaining and especially spending time with family. She was a avid Arizona Wildcat fan, even attending a Final-four game in San Antonio. She will be remembered fondly and sorely missed by all. Services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel. Reception to follow at Sunset Ridge townhomes clubhouse, 6255 N. Sparkle Lane. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged for the Tucson Loan Chest (Medical Supplies).
