Scott Simpson Obituary

Simpson, Scott Shea

June 3, 1974 - August 29, 2024

Scott Shea Simpson, "Shea", passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024. He was 50 years of age. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Marcella Simpson, and his brothers, Cory and Robbie. Shea grew up in Tulsa graduating from Bishop Kelley High School. He attended Baylor University but transferred to Drury University where he graduated with a double major in Biology and Criminology. He also played tennis at Drury. After graduating, Shea's love for tennis brought him back to Tulsa where he earned a graduate assistant position with the University of Tulsa women's tennis team. Shea's passion was tennis and coaching tennis. Initially admitted into the University of Tulsa Law School he transferred into TU's Collins College of Business studying towards an MBA. After a year in the program Shea knew his true focus was being on the tennis courts coaching so he withdrew from the graduate program and became the full time assistant women's tennis coach at TU in 1999. Over Shea's nine years as the assistant he coached teams to 2 conference championships and 4 NCAA appearances. He was also named the 2001 Regional Assistant Coach of the Year. Shea's passion for recruiting future student athletes brought him across the world. His zeal for adventure and his larger than life personality were truly remarkable. If you ever met Shea you will forever remember him. He will be dearly missed. Shea was Life itself.

A private service to celebrate Shea's life will be held Friday Sept, 6, 2024 at Stanley's Funeral Home in Tulsa.

I am truly sorry to hear about Scotts passing. We were good friend when he attended Baylor University in the 90's. I will cherish the fond memories of our friendship and good times together. May he rest in peace.

I met Shea at Bishop Kelley freshman year back when he had all 10 fingers. We had several classes together and always got along well. We didn´t really keep in touch during our college years but reconnected after college. We would go hunting, mostly for ducks, and would always have a great time even if the birds weren´t flying.

Shea was one of those people who brought others around him up. I would physically feel better just being around him. His positive energy and excitement for whatever he was doing was contagious. Shea was always very generous bringing food, snacks and drinks for everyone. He would share his fancy gear with anyone who may have needed something sometimes just giving it away. Shea was easy to talk to, animated, and funny. We laughed a lot, and no matter how late we stayed up the night before Shea was always up bright and early with his high energy, optimism and a smile on his face ready to go hunting and enjoy the day.

Shea genuinely cared for others and wore his emotions on his sleeve. You never really had to guess how he was feeling. Shea spoke about his brother Cory often and the love he had for his family was apparent. Shea also spoke a lot about Good Ole´ Kevin Gannon who I´ve known since my St. Mary´s days but didn´t really keep up with. Shea would always fill me in about Kevin and how he was doing.

Robert, Marcella, Robbie and Cory, I am so very sorry for your loss. This world needs more people like Shea. I´m thankful to have known him and call him my friend.

Love you Shea. Rest in Peace Brother

I first met Shea when I was playing in the 12 and under tennis tournaments at La Fortune Park. He was the tournament director of many junior events. I got to know Shea even better as part of the TU tennis program. He was a great coach and an incredibly uplifting and positive person to be around. Shea recruited my wife, Michelle to TU, so if not for Shea, I would not be happily married with two beautiful kids. Thank you, Shea!

I´ll miss him and his booming "Let´s go Tulsa" cheers.

RIP Shea.

Shea and I met in 2nd grade when he transferred to Eliot. Immediately we became friends. That friendship would last through middle school, high school and beyond. He was always such a loyal friend and such an important part of those formative years. Even when we drifted apart as adults, like so many people do, whenever we saw each other his face would light up and we were both genuinely excited to spend a few moments catching up. Honestly a few characters on a website could never do justice to how much he means to me and how important his friendship is to me.

Sending love and peace to the family.

Shea was my son´s tennis teacher/coach and was his greatest mentor. He championed Max when he needed it more than ever. Over the years they became close friends. He flew to Hawaii to be a groomsman in Max and Alyssa´s wedding. I loved him for the kind sweet man he was. Always upbeat and happy. My heart breaks knowing he is gone. The sun will never shine as bright now. Love you Shea.

He was a great guy, and will be missed by many. His Bishop Kelley classmates and other friends will have a gathering on Saturday the 7th at McNellies on the patio at 730pm. We want to welcome anyone who would like to attend in honor of Shea.
