Chuck Hagen demonstrated his creative problem-solving to me the first day I met him in his office at St. Paul Public Schools. He hired me to bring what we now call 'augmentative communication devices' into the district. He was keenly aware of a population of children with significant handicapping conditions who had never been enrolled in public schools, who now needed to be included. For a decade, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Mr. Hagen as he demonstrated to all both his commitment to bringing these children into the 'mainstream' and his masterful intelligence in creating the processes for doing so. Chuck Hagen was a friend to many. He was a strong voice in serving the many needs of the Special-Ed students in the St. Paul schools and for many years.
He articulately and righteously defended his programs that helped the growing needs of our students.
Chuck was a friend to all he met, and a fine colleague to share a cup of coffee on the 5th floor at 360 Colborne.
Condolences to the Hagen family. Chuck left a wonderful legacy to many.
