Preceded in death by parents John and Bernadine Brick. Dan suffered a stroke and passed away peacefully on March 16th. He graduated from St. Thomas Academy (1965) and the College of St. Thomas (1969). He was a teacher for over 30 years. Dan will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul. A Celebration of Life will be held later. Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St Paul.

I had Mr. Brick just over 20 years ago for nearly three years of various English classes, and I still have so many memories of this man. The older I get, the more I appreciate and respect who he was, to walk into that school and unabashedly share with us his love of opera, poetry, and calming meditation. I don´t know if his wife or son will see this, but one memory that is strongest for me is how he shared with us how he watched a movie with his wife and the ending upset her. So being the writer that he was, he wrote her a new ending to cheer her up. The love that shone in his eyes whenever he spoke about his wife and son was clear to me even then, as a stupid teenager who knew nothing of love, to paraphrase Robert Hayden. Bless you Mr. Brick, we didn´t deserve you, but you gave us the best of you every day anyway.

I came to know Daniel Brick through on-line poetry site www.poemhunter.com. His poetry attracted me and I benefited greatly by his valuable comments on my poems. On my request he agreed to write a book with me.But I was shocked to know about his demise when the book was not complete. With much dilemma I proceeded to complete the book 'Poetry and Friendship' by Daniel Brick and Bharati Nayak. I feel so sad that he did not live to see the book.Daniel's death is a big loss to the world of literature. But he still lives in his poetry and will live for ever.

We miss two great pillars of our Poets Unite Worldwide - Daniel and Fabricio, but their poetry will keep being alive and carry on their legacy. As Carl Sandburg says: "Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance." We keep dancing with words and Daniel and Fabrizio were our inspirational dance teachers.

This is the first time that I'm losing a dear friend and I still can't believe it. Daniel was a kind and generous person who used to support me in my studies. Though I have never met him, I know our friendship was a real one, since there was no expectation between us. One of the best memories that I have of him goes back to the time there was an earthquake in Tehran. He was the first person among my friends who texted me to make sure I'm fine!
I wish we could have you, dear Daniel, among us for a longer time.
I have been planning to apply for PhD and I was thinking of choosing the universities of America. I was glad that I have a friend there. But now ...

Missing you always,
Negar

This was very sad news to hear! I got to know Daniel at Waite Park Church, and I always enjoyed the fun conversations and silliness we shared on those Sunday mornings before Covid. It was always fun to see him coming towards my post as an usher, knowing that we would have something interesting to talk about. And he was so kind to my kids. What a fun guy he was! I will miss him very much!

What a joy and honor to worship with Daniel. Daniel asked probing, thoughtful questions ... he loved to join in worship and study. His poetry offered keen insights. I will miss his friendship and caring. Our family's best to each of you his family.
Blessings,

Mr Brick was a beloved teacher at St. Paul Central. I took every course I could with him and admired his gentle and kind approach to teaching. I wasn´t a very diligent student in those days but he still made me feel welcome and valued in his classroom. I´m very sorry to hear of his passing, and I wish comfort for all who loved him as you grieve this loss.

Mr. Brick was such a kind and patient teacher. Bless him for reading fraught teenage poetry (and giving thoughtful criticism!) year after year. He was a really great teacher and a very nice man.

This guy´s students really loved him. His peaceful presence had a way of calming even the more rambunctious adolescents in his classes. RIP

I am so sorry very for your loss.

I meet Daniel at Waite Park church. I guess it has been at least 3 or more years ago. He came quite regularly for some time to Sunday services, prior to Covid.

I also had the pleasure of having Daniel in my small group for a time.

Daniel was a friendly, cheerful and warm man, who always had a smile for me and time to ask and listen to how things were going in my life. He also was generous with complements and kind words.

I am so sad to hear this news. And I am so very sorry for you, his family and close friends for this great loss.

I pray that your many, many warm memories of Daniel, and the good man that he was, and the good that he brought to those around him throughout his many years of life, will console and ease the loss of Daniel in some way.

I will surely miss him.

Thank you so much for sharing his poems with all of us! What a great way for Daniel to live on in our hearts and memories.

God bless you - Joel Doheny - from Waite Park Church

I´m so sorry to hear of Mr. Brick´s passing. He was a really nice guy and a great English teacher at Central High. I remember his Shakespeare class fondly. He was a student of my grandpa Bob Lippert´s literature classes at the College of Saint Thomas and it warmed my heart when he told me about his memories of him as a student.

I am so sorry to hear Daniel has passed. He was a trove of literary knowledge I knew I could turn to when I needed to find a story or author. He enriched all of us in the Central English department with his kindness and gentle wisdom-and love of opera.

Mr. Brick. I know I am not the first student that you set free with hope on her wings. I know that your voice was the wind to push so many of us forward. And I will remember your compassion, and gentle laugh that echoed with reassurance.

Godspeed on your next journey in your existence. I'm sure where you are is breathtaking and to mere mortals, would defy description. I also know that you could paint the most accurate and word-lust worthy depiction of you amongst the stars that we could all see vividly in our minds.

I will never forget you And I speak of you often with thanks for steering a wayward child a little more forward.

Daniel Brick had the classroom below mine when I taught at Central High. I remember Daniel shared his fondness for literature, and the poet Billy Collins. One of the poems he shared with me was Questions About Angels. May he continue to enjoy poetry and may his questions be answered.
