To The Mauer Family,
From the first time I met Coach Mauer he appeared historic and the kind of guy you would share a Fox Hole with. To this day I wish I could have played for him. I believe he would have not only a better athlete but a better person. During your time coach you´ve left and created a legacy. Your family shows your impact you had with them. RIP !

My sympathies to the entire Mauer family. Mr Mauer was clearly a special coach. I remember being in 5th grade and my mom, a Humboldt alum herself, took me out of school to attend the Twin Cities Football championship game in 1961. Mr Mauer had led "Wiley Walt Awada and the West Side Wonders" to their first city title since 1931. His skill and teaching ability helped to bring pride to the entire West Side - not just the kids at school, but the entire community. What a gift! He took the team to another title in 1966, I believe; also to 2nd in State for baseball in the mid-60's. From the other entries here it's easy to see how well respected he was by the guys he coached, but the entire West Side community benefited and pulled together as a result. An what student can forget pep assemblys where Mr Mauer provided play-by-play commentary to the game film from the previous week! Truly, rest in peace.

Dear Mauer family - Your dad was such a remarkable man and a great inspiration to me as a coach, mentor and friend. Having lunches with him over the last few years was so special not only for me but for all the West Siders who attended. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Coach Mauer was the best.
Peace to all, Tony Ruiz

To the Sons of Mr. Mauer, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your Dad. As you know the West Side was always special to your Father and your Dad had special meaning and respect from so many of us ( WestSiders) as well. The lunch meetings we had with your Dad and Mr. McDonough and the recent Birthday celebration for Mr. Mauer will always be fond memories. I recently read this quote that I feel embodies what many of us felt about your Dad An excellent coach is hard to find difficult to part with and impossible to forget . May he now Rest In Peace and may all the fond and funny memories of your Pops give your family strength during this difficult time. God Bless.

What a great run with so many accomplishments. I played football at Humboldt High School in the 60's and Ken was our head coach. In my lifetime he had more influence on my success than anyone other than my parents. Coach Mauer, thanks for all you did for your many players and students. Well done.

I appreciated the opportunity he let me earn as a Lifeguard & Swimming Instructor, while he managed the West St. Paul Municipal Pool in the 1970's.
