I just want to send my condolences to family members and convey how sorry i am to hear this tragic news. I played with Mike at the U of M and spent much time with him during the 1979 season. He was a hysterically funny individual who played an integral part of that ncaa championship team, leading the way as the tough guy, his tremendous character and leadership. He had a huge impact on myself and fellow teammates and will be missed immensely...

What a privilege it was to be a teammate of Mike's at Mahtomedi.
A truly great player, and I know it sounds trite but it's absolutely true, an even better person!

Mike was one of a kind. I'll never forget the tears of joy he cried after we won the National Championship. He was a great teammate, and it looks like Herbie needed a good, tough defenseman in Heaven.
