JOYCE H SARBER
Joyce Herrick Sarber, 95, was born Feb 26, 1926 in St. Paul Mn, the 3rd of 4 children, to
Clifton & Florence Herrick. She lived in Minn until she was 20 yrs old when she moved to Oakland, Ca with her family, transferring from Macalister College to UC-Berkeley. She met Richard, her husband of 68 yrs, in Yosemite the summer of '47 and they married Apr 18, 1948. In the summer of 1949 they moved to Ukiah, bought a house, started their family & opened Triple S Camera shop. They have 2 daughters, Gay Brown and Virginia (Ginger) McCartney. In 1972 she graduated from
Sonoma State College with a BA in Music and then taught piano lessons for about 5 yrs. Over the course of her life Joyce was very active in a wide variety of pursuits. She worked with her husband at Triple S Camera Shop, was a dental assistant, worked for Mendocino Co as Clerk, Secretary, & Administrative Secretary in various departments ending in 1996 after 11 yrs with the Department of Agriculture. She was a member of PTA including various offices both locally and at the regional and state levels. She was a Camp Fire Girls group leader for 8 years and was a counselor or co-director of Camp Timber Tall each summer. She was in the Presbyterian Church Choir for many yrs and was an organizer & server for the Colonial Tea.
She was active in and enjoyed her memberships in Cultus Club, Community Concert Association for which she was Membership Chairman, American Association of University Women, Soroptimist Int'l, and several
other organizations.
Joyce passed away peacefully at home with family present on Mar. 14, 2021 at 10:55pm. She is preceded in death by her
parents, her brother & 2 sisters and their spouses, 2 nieces and 1 great nephew as well as her husband Richard.
She is survived by her daughters, Gay
(Kevin), and Ginger; her grandchildren, Karl, Erika, Michael, and Ian Brown, and Jesse, Lea, and Timothy McCartney; as well as great-grandchildren Eternity, Xavier, RileyJoy & Haven Brown.
Services will be held Saturday April 24, 2021 at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church Ukiah, corner of Dora and Perkins Streets.
