Virginia Gardener
UNION — Mrs. Virginia Gardener, 69, 221 Bird Street, Union, widow of Mr. Freddie James Gardener Sr., died Friday, August 24, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Gardener was born November 17, 1948, a daughter of the late Amos Jeter and May Ruth Johnston.
Mrs. Gardener was a graduate of Sims High School class of 1967. She was known for her employment at Carlsan Headstart where she was employed for 22 years. She was also known for her sweet spirit.
Survivors include two daughters, Leatha Neal (William) of Spartanburg, Vernice Glenn (Eric) of Jonesville; one son, Freddie James Gardener Jr. (Dorothy) of Union; one brother, Kendall Johnston; and three sisters, Shirley Nevius, Lucinda Moses and Pandora Johnston; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 1.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Lewis Funeral Home and Crematory has charge of the arrangements.

I will never forget Ms. Gardner. She was my mom´s best friend. When I brought my mother to South Carolina the year before her death she wanted to spend time with her best friend. Now they are in Heaven together. Praising God. I look to see them there together one day.

Mrs. Gardner was my Mother's (Willie Gilliam)best friend. They worked together at the head start in Union SC. I always enjoyed seeing her when I visited my mom. Mrs. Gardner had such a sweet spirit. I know she will be missed by all those who knew her. My prayers go out to her family. Rest in heaven Mrs. Gardner.
