My first teaching position was at the Auburn Village School from 1964-66. Carl was one of my students (new teachers remember their first class). I remember Carl as relatively quiet, hard worker and dependable. I coached the baseball team and Carl was my first baseman (he could catch)! The highlight of our season was when we defeated Hood Jr. High. Hood was considered the best team. The Hoodhad had 300+ students while Auburn had 35 in the 7th- 8th. Carl drove in the winning run. I know Carl went to Memorial and I went on to other schools--Hampstead at the time. I did meet Carl again. I had left teaching and was bartending at Fanyans Restaurant at Bretton Woods and Carl was snowmobiling. We got to talking and found out who we were.

My condolences are with the family.

Carl was larger than life, an inspiration to all who knew him, generous to a fault, a giver and not a taker, and devoted to his family above all. He was blessed with commonsense, compassion, and integrity. Nancy's and my thoughts and prayers are of you Shirley and your family. And to those of us fortunate to known Carl, it is incumbent on us to honor his memory and the high bar he set by living our lives similarly.

Our family is now missing the biggest piece. To say we are heart broken is an understatement and we all keep hoping we wake up from this horrible dream. Carl was a selfless man who never put himself first and was always doing for others. Sitting still was not his strength as he always needed to be doing something/ working. He accomplished so much in such a short life and truly was a savior for many of us. The true definition of father... grandfather and loving husband.

Unspeakable sadness can only describe our feelings in the loss of our great friend, Carl... Our hearts are shattered in grief. In this world and in our short lifetimes, there are very few people that we truly call best friends, a man who would do anything for you and others, at any given time. I have often witnessed this gentle spirited kindness in Carl... His short lived life proved that love of family was his priority. Shirley, Lisa, Jenny, Carl, Nikki, Crystal, Mickey and family, Carl's legacy will live on and continue through you. Carl Jr., as you finish your Eagle Scout project, Carl will be right there beside you.... We love you lots and hold you close in thought and prayer....
