Charles Watson Obituary

Charles "Bob" R. Watson, 93, of Bedford, NH, died August 23, 2023, after a brief period of declining health.

Born in Manchester, NH on September 23, 1929, he was the son of Charles M. and Mildred (O'Malley) Watson. He was a lifelong resident of Bedford.

Bob graduated from Manchester High School West, Class of 1947.

He served with the Army National Guard. He was an active member with the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post #2. Bob was proud to participate in the Naturalization Ceremonies with the post.

In his early years, he was employed with C.W. Watson and Sons Tractor. Later, he was a service coordinator with State Motors Lincoln for seventy-four years.

A social butterfly, Bob loved dancing, especially Polka, playing cribbage, and spending time with family and friends at the cottage on Trouants Island. He enjoyed riding on his tractor. Bob had a keen interest in Bedford and Manchester history. Those who knew him will never forget his quick wit, outgoing personality, and gentleman like ways. Bob had a smile that would light up the room. Truly a man of the "Greatest Generation" he had zest for life and strong determination that will live on through his legacy. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, whose family was the center of his life. Known for his selfless ways, he served and helped whenever and wherever he was needed. Bob will be missed deeply and will always hold an honored place in the history of his family.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Cecile "Sis" (Savoie) Watson. She died January 1, 2018. He was also predeceased by a brother, Richard "Dick" Watson; two sisters, Charlotte Philbrook and Ruth Waltz.

Family members include two sons, William "Bill" and his wife, Patricia "Pat", of Cocoa Beach, FL and Gary and his wife, Nancy, of Amherst; four grandchildren, Megan, Sonya, Charlie, and Lindsey; and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Signa McQuate of Manchester; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Services: A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I worked with Billy years ago at Auto Electric, Bob would tell me all about Bill living in Florida and how much he loved it whenever I was at State motors. I would make sure to look him up when I was there. Rest in peace

I feel very fortunate having met Bob through work. He was an amazing man who always had a story to tell a smile on his face and a stack of greeting cards for me to store away for a rainy day. He will be missed.

My parents enjoyed many fun times with Cis and Bob. Dancing every Saturday night at Sweeney Post; long rides for ice cream, and whatever adventures they had. Lots of fun and laughs were shared together. Dad surely will miss you Bob. Please say HI to my Mom for me.
