David Hall Obituary

David R. Hall of Amherst, N.H., passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease while vacationing at Mullet Lake in Northern Michigan.

David was preceded in death by his loving parents, Elizabeth (Betty) and Lawrence Hall. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Hall; his children, Heather Hall, David E. Hall (Dawn), and Carl Hall; his two stepdaughters, Sarah (Scott) Filion, Emily (Dan) Houlihan; his seven grandchildren Elizabeth Loftus, Lauren and Marin Hall, Eamon and Mary Hall, Abigail and Madeleine Houlihan; his brother, Lawrence (Alane) Hall; and niece and nephew, Barbara Hall (Chris Gosselin) and Benjamin (Aly) Hall.

David was born in Boston, Mass., on Nov. 6, 1943, to Lawrence and Betty. He grew up in Amherst, N.H., with his brother, Larry. He was an avid learner and an excellent student. He graduated from Milford Area Senior High School in 1961. He also attended the St. Paul's School Advanced Studies Program during two summers while he was in high school, receiving honors for special achievement. David went on to attend Yale University, graduating in 1965. He then attended the MIT Sloan School of Management and received his MBA in 1967. He began his professional career teaching business management at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., before founding and running thriving real estate, construction, and property development businesses in southern New Hampshire.

David was an ardent outdoorsman. He loved the air, land, and water. He had a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying, gliding, and parachuting. He took at least one trip in a hot air balloon with his brother, Larry, and their mom to celebrate her 80th birthday. He enjoyed skiing, hunting, and "walking the land." He ran four Boston Marathons, as well as several half-marathons, and introduced other family members to the joy of running. He was an avid sailor. He participated in the Newport-to-Bermuda offshore sailing race, and numerous other races, both offshore and one-design. He was also a passionate boater, scuba diver, and fisherman.

David had a curious and inventive mind, and held patents on two of his inventions. He found joy in playing chess and working with anything mechanical, including a 1929 Ford Model A. Above all of his many hobbies, interests, and business ventures, David will be remembered for his honesty, his integrity, and the love that he had for his family.

A private family service will be held in New Hampshire at a later date.

To Mary and all the Hall family members- We are so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. We will always remember the great times sailing---where ever we were. All we ever needed was a good Yalie whack of a wrench for fix a stubborn engine, to keeping us from going around & around in circles on the catarmaran!
