Edmond Valade Obituary

Edmond Valade, son of the late Armand and Ernestine (Constant) Valade, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on January 3, 2023. Ed along with his brothers Lucien & Robert grew up on the gritty west side of Manchester, NH where they enjoyed fishing and many outdoor activities. Ed was a graduate of Central High School, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Anselm College in 1959, and his Master of Arts in History from UNH in 1967. He was a Korean War Veteran.

In 1955, he had the good fortune to marry the lovely Doris Pinette whom he has said made his life a peaceful and joyous existence. For 52 years they lived in the house he built in the hills of Goffstown, NH where they raised their 3 children.

Ed enjoyed Sunday drives with Doris, rock hunting with Vincent, visiting the Outer Banks with Judy and her family, fishing with John, telling bedtime stories to his grandchildren, walks in the woods, Oscar Durand's paintings, swimming at the Barry's camp at Merrymeeting Lake, and spending hours tinkering away in his wood working shop. He was an avid reader and skilled artist.

Ed often reminisced about his 29 years of teaching the fine students at Memorial High School, where the school yearbook was dedicated to him on more than one occasion. Up until this past Christmas he was still receiving letters from former students who also shared his enthusiasm for history.

Ed is predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Doris (Pinette) Valade, eldest son, Vincent, and brother, Robert. His memory lives on through his daughter Judith (Valade) Ayers, son, John Valade, brother, Lucien Valade, 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Zabel, Katherine Magoon, Kimberley McGrath, Brian, Scott & Abigail Ayers, 3 great-grandchildren: Victoria and Gabrielle Zabel & Brianne McGrath.

We will miss his crepes, stories, Zuppa soup, guidance, warm smile, feisty spirit and the embrace of his overwhelming love and devotion to our family - which was always his #1 priority. We love you Dad/Pepere!

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 10:30AM - 12:30PM at the Cremation Society of NH, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester.

I was very sorry to hear of your father's passing. I enjoyed being one of the lucky students to have him for a teacher. He really cared about history and sharing all that he knew. We were fortunate to have him at Memorial HS.

Mr. Valade was my history teacher in my junior year. I had his class first period. And 7th period, I had a study hall. Many times, I got permission to skip study hall, and go to his 7 th period class. He was a wonderful teacher! I still enjoy reading historical books, all because of his influence. Sincere condolences,Barbara Maturo

Mr. Valade has had a lasting impact on me, as I hope he knew. He would tell our US History class at Memorial that he didn't believe in constant quizzes and tests because he didn't want to spend his time correcting them. Rather, he preferred to do research so that his classes would be more interesting and engaging. And he succeeded. As a teacher myself for many years, I took that to heart, and it was well worth it.

Please know that he is fondly remembered as a person of rich character and influence in his quietly winning ways.

With deepest sympathy...

Mr. Valade made history accessible to so many of us. I remember revisiting MMHS as a West Point cadet and he invited me to facilitate one of his classes when they were studying the Civil War. I also remember when he installed an air conditioner at my Dad's house. He was a consummate contributor, and our world needs need more like him.

So sorry to hear of Ed´s passing. My sincere condolences to his family. I did my student teaching at Memorial under Ed way back in 1968. I have nothing but the fondest memories of him. I also went on teach across the hall from him for 5 years. I learned so much from him. I will never forget him and his wry sense of humor. I loved getting his goat by calling him Dr. Juan Valdez. We have lost a man of great knowledge with a never ending love of American History.
