John Meisel Obituary

John "Jack" G. Meisel, 95, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, after a period of declining health.

Born in Manchester on August 25, 1930, he was the son of George and Elizabeth (Goonan) Meisel, residing in the Queen City most of his life.

Jack was a proud graduate of St. Joseph High School Class of 1948. He continued his studies at Marianapolis Preparatory School and St. Michael's College, but interrupted his education to enlist for service during the Korean War. After discharge, he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Hampshire.

During the Korean War, Jack honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class in the 3rd Infantry Division while serving on the front lines. A proud veteran, he was a dedicated member for 72 years of the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post #2, where he faithfully served many years as part of the Honor Guard. He was a recipient of the American Legion Gold Card, a rare honor awarded for exceptional duty.

Jack's professional life reflected his intelligence and dedication. For more than three decades, he worked as an electrical engineer with Sanders Associates, later Lockheed Martin and today known as BAE Systems. His work helped advance innovation, and he was well respected by his colleagues for his professionalism and quiet strength.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Jack was a longtime communicant of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, where his steady presence and humble devotion reflected the values by which he lived. He coached the CYO high school basketball team for many years.

Outside of work and faith, Jack found joy and peace in nature and sport. A passionate golfer and member of Intervale Country Club, he served both on the Board of Directors and the Land Trust Committee. He loved the outdoors, skiing, hiking, and embracing adventure in the mountains. Accompanied by his wife and children, he was especially proud to be a member of the Appalachian Mountain 4,000 Footer Club, a testament to his determination and love of challenge.

Jack lived his life with kindness, gratitude, and quiet grace. He had a genuine warmth that made everyone feel welcome in his presence. Jack's kindness was effortless; he lived to make others feel cared for. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word, humble, gracious, and endlessly good-hearted.

Above all, Jack was a devoted family man. He was a wonderful husband to his beloved wife of sixty years, Maryanne, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and partnership. Together they built a beautiful life and raised six cherished daughters, who were his greatest pride and joy. His legacy of love, humor, and gentle strength will live on through them and their children. He will be deeply missed and his memory held dear.

He was predeceased by his wife, Maryanne (Milne) Meisel on April 7, 2013, and by his daughter, Heidi J. Langella, on January 30, 2022.

Family members include five daughters, Joyce A. Meisel of Concord, Kerry L. Keane and her husband, Michael, of Nashua, Lisa V. Suglia and her husband, Bill, of Andover, MA, Wendy B. Croasdale, and her husband, Philip of Manchester, and Eileen M. Nuñez and her husband, Julian, of Chapel Hill, NC; a son-in-law, Peter Langella; eight grandchildren, John, Will, Cara, Thomas, Jack, Bridget, Erin, and Katrina; four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Benjamin, Ellie, and Jack; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Services: Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker Street, Manchester, NH, 03102.

The funeral will follow with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM in the church.

Burial with military honors will proceed in New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH at 1:00 PM.

The Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH has the honor of conducting the arrangements.

Joyce, Kerry, Lisa, Wendy, Eileen and Family, We were so sorry to hear of Your Dad's passing. Our family had the good fortune of meeting the Meisel family in the early 1960's, upon moving into the neighborhood, becoming neighbors and friends for over six decades. There are so many wonderful memories, ski trips to Ragged Mountain, Sunapee and summers on Cape Cod and Winnipesaukee.
I became an avid skier, racer and member of ski patrols due to Jack's mentorship. He volunteered his services, as our basketball and baseball coach.
It was my honor to be his caddie for many years, during his participation in city and state golf tournaments, and later participating in those and other golf events with him.

Jack probably would have won more frequently, had I been a better caddie....

Although I moved to CT, we never lost touch and I would always enjoy time through our Sweeney Post membership and chance meetings at the Post to catch up. Jack volunteered to present the colors to our family at our Dad's funeral and I will never forget, how hard it was for him and how much it meant to us. His service to our country is greatly appreciated!
We hold the Meisel Family close to our hearts during this difficult time. Jack, Maryanne and Heidi will always be remembered with fondness! Know that they are together.

He was "kindness, gratitude, and quiet grace. He had a genuine warmth that made everyone feel welcome in his presence. Jack’s kindness was effortless; he lived to make others feel cared for.
