Jonathan Cheney Obituary

Tuesday, February 9th, Jonathan C. Cheney M. Ed., a loving son and brother, passed away at the age of 39 with his family by his side.

Jonathan was born on October 9, 1981, to Wayne and Amanda (Brochu) Cheney. He graduated high school 7th in his class from Wilton, NH in 2000 as a member of the national honor society and class secretary. After high school Jonathan went to Keene State College where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and then earned a master's degree in Education. After getting his master's degree Jonathan was a counselor for the Nashua Children's Home, an elementary school counselor in Northfield, NH, and most recently a middle school counselor at Parkside in Manchester, NH. He held the office of President for the National School Counselors Association and currently is the Treasurer.

Family meant everything to Jonathan. Jonathan happily accepted any invitation to be together with family and friends. James recently took Jonathan four wheeling in Warren, NH and Jonathan treasured that trip. Jonathan had a passion for antique and consignment shopping. His new favorite place to shop for treasures was the Milford Market LLC. He loved to decorate his condo, especially for the holidays, with his findings. He also loved traveling and visited Acadia National Park in Maine, Florida, Colorado, California, Niagara Falls, The Wine and Cheese party in Canada, The Highland Games, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Paris.

Jonathan was preceded by his grandparents, Frank and Lucy Cheney, and many uncles and cousins. He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Amanda Cheney; his brother, James Cheney and his fiancé Danielle Webster; his grandparents, Paul and Martha Brochu; many wonderful aunts and uncles; nieces MacKenzie, Mya, Emma, and Jordenne; and his many friends, especially Shane, Tim, Nichole, John, RJ, Amber, and Meg.

A public walk through will be held on Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. This is so heartbreaking, I will always remember Mr.Cheney, he was my elementary school guidance counselor and was always there for the students that needed him the most. I remember going into his office some days and would eat lunch with him and a few other of my friends. We will all miss you.

He was an inspiration in residential life at Keene State and an amazing advocate for all of our vulnerable students. I haven't seen him in a decade but I can hear his infectious laugh, clear as day. He was a wonderful boss and friend.
