Joseph Conlon Obituary
He was born in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Boston, MA on September 1, 1942, the son of Joseph and Mildred (Sullivan) Conlon. He was a graduate of Mission Hill High School, Roxbury, MA.
Joseph served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, as well as the U.S. Army. Joseph was qualified in the Airborne, Army Special Forces, and Army Rangers. He was a veteran of two (2) tours in Vietnam, including highly classified MACVSOG operations behind enemy lines. During his service, he earned several combat decorations including two (2) Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart. In 2012 he was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action during that Conflict.
Joseph was predeceased by his former wife, Jane Capers and a brother, Thomas F. Conlon.
Surviving family members include daughter, Christine Shoemaker and her husband Todd, of Shirley, MA., three grandchildren: Molly, Cameron and Griffin Shoemaker, also of Shirley, MA, three sisters: Kathleen Patton, Wolfeboro, NH, Mary Devito, Arlington, MA and Maureen Fico, Lexington, MA.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 2-4 PM at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St. Manchester, NH.
Burial with full military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made in Joe's memory to the Special Operations Association (SOA). Contributions can be mailed to:

Dear family, Joe will always be with us in thought. He was not only a friend but we felt like he was a member of our family. His thoughtful gifts remind us of him every day. Pat will always remember him as a hero of August 23, 1968 when he put his life on the line to save many of his fellow Green Berets. We will always love you Joe - Pat and Carol Watkins.

Joe, I'll never forget you... for that would be virtually impossible!!
You were a great Team Sergeant and mentor, from which I learned a great deal, and later applied with success... when I became a Team Sergeant.
I will always cherish the fond memories of the high adventure days of the legendary ODA 325... they were Good Times!!
