HAMPTON -- Kenneth H. Buell, 94, a former longtime Hampton resident, died Jan. 12, 2009, at Exeter Hospital.
He was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Eastford, Conn., to Charles and Mabel (Clemens) Buell. He was raised in Petersham, Mass., and was a graduate of Petersham High School and the University of Massachusetts.
While serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he met his wife Catherine (Johnson) in England. After he was honorably discharged, they moved to New Hampshire, where they owned and operated dairy farms in East Concord and Stratham.
When in East Concord, he was an officer for the SPCA, investigating animal cruelty cases, and while in Stratham, he taught agriculture for the University of New Hampshire. Shortly thereafter he and his wife moved to Hampton and in 1960 owned and operated Buell's Ice Cream and Buell's Dairy Bar & Restaurant in North Hampton until their retirement in 1978. He also served Hampton as an auxiliary police officer.
He was an avid golfer, gardener, and enjoyed many trips to England, Ireland, and Scotland, where he enjoyed visiting friends and family. He was also a lover of nature and the outdoors.
He was predeceased by his first wife in 2001.
He is survived by a daughter, Jean Gould, of Meredith; a son, Paul Buell; his wife, Linda, and their daughter, Chelsea, all of Methuen, Mass.
SERVICES: Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. American Legion services will be at 6 p.m. followed by a prayer service by the Holy Name Society at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. My heart goes out to you as you go through this difficult time. You did everything you could to care for and support your father - and, most of all, to love him. Hold on to all of your happy memories! From what I understand he had a strong faith, so he will be comforted on his new journey.
