Michael Lloyd Emmons, 73, of East Wakefield, NH, passed away unexpectedly at his home November 18, 2024.
Michael was born in Biddeford, ME, April 10, 1951 to Raymond Emmons and Doris (Smith) Clark, and grew up in Wells, ME. He graduated from Wells High School in 1969 and earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Maine at Orono in 1973. He built a successful career in program management in defense industry weapons development and retired from Textron Defense Systems in 2010.
Michael married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Catherine Ann Kenison of Ogunquit, ME, on June 12, 1971. They moved to Silver Spring, MD, shortly after graduation from college and, later, lived in York and Wells, ME, then Plaistow and Atkinson, NH before retiring to East Wakefield in 2010.
Michael was extremely affable with a tremendous outgoing spirit and a great sense of humor. He was well-liked and widely respected for his selflessness in helping others and for his dedication to community service. He served on the Board of Selectmen in Plaistow, NH, and as Chairmen of the Planning Board and Budget Committees. Calls to his home frequently found Michael off helping one neighbor or another working on some project. An excellent high school basketball player, he set a rebound record for Wells High School that stood for over twenty years. He loved watching sports of all types and was a dedicated Boston Red Sox fan.
His career led Michael and his family to live abroad on several six-month work assignments in Holy Lock, Scotland and Rota, Spain. He was especially fond of warm climates and, together with his family, enjoyed many Caribbean Island vacation adventures. Following his retirement, Michael and Cathy enjoyed annual winter pilgrimages to Myrtle Beach, SC.
Michael is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine, his daughter Jennifer & fiance Gene, his sister-in-law Lisa Monroe, his sister Ellen Bowden, his brother Bruce, brother-in-law Scott Lucas, nieces Sarah Monroe and Andrea Goulette, and his nephew Zachary Lucas.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 30, 11:00 a.m. at Peaslee Funeral Home located at 2079 Wakefield Road, Sanbornville, NH. Following the service, there will be a luncheon at TumbleDown Restaurant.
