Stanley Gorski Obituary

MANCHESTER - Stanley M. Gorski Jr., 71, of Manchester, died Aug. 17, 2013, after a period of declining health.

He was born in Manchester on June 20, 1942, the son of Stanley Sr. and Stella (Mlocek) Gorski. He attended St. Casimir grammar school and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in English from St. Anselm College.

During his senior year in college, "Tiny G," as he was known at the time, received a request for him to apply for a teaching position at Bradley. He had been teaching at the high school ever since.

During his 51 years of teaching in the English department at Trinity High School (formerly Bishop Bradley), Stanley was highly respected as an excellent educator, mentor and friend to everyone he came in contact with. He had a special love of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in Middle English and succeeded in passing this passion along by reading aloud to thousands of students. In Stan's first year of teaching, he was also freshman football and basketball coach. In addition to his teaching duties, he volunteered as Trinity High's varsity basketball, track, tennis, and cheerleading coach as well as serving as the school's athletic director for many years.

An avid cribbage player, Stan has won 12 season championships playing for the Mount Royale Club 1 in Manchester. For much of his life, he was an active parishioner of St. Hedwig Church.

He leaves behind his daughter, Charlotte Rose Gorski of Buffalo, N.Y.; her mother, Marigrace (O'Leary) Brown of Manchester; one brother, Richard Gorski and wife Sandy of Telford, PA; three nieces, Kelly Godfrey and husband Michael of Limerick, Pa., Amy Thompson and husband Garrett of Harleysville, Pa., and Betsy Swanker and husband Brian of Coopersville, Pa. He also touched the hearts of many loving cousins, lifelong friends and thousands of Pioneers.

.

I never met you or heard of you until now. I came across your story Stan, accidently, by scanning across the Trinity HS website...beautiful dedication. I'm in awe of such an incredible human being and ambassador for Christ you were! I can't help but get emotional and teary eyed just reading over your friend's and student's true accounts and impacting moments you instilled to these people. You are so in heaven and so sorely missed. You gave youself to these people Stan. Must have been a great feeling knowing what you did for your fellow man lying on that bed minutes away from Jesus' embrace.
A true 'Hero'miles above many so-called media driven psuedo role models of today.

Makes me feel so inadequate.

Love you Stan.

If I can make an impact on 1/4 of the people Mr Gorski did in I will die a happy man. I will pass along as much of his wisdom to my children as humanly possible. My heart goes out to the Gorski family.

Stan Gorski was a tremendous mentor and educator, and a good friend to our three eldest daughters - especially our third daughter Tricia (who called him "Twin"). Imagine the impact and influence this man has had on literally generations of students. He will be missed, and his iconic tenure will never be replicated.

In the course of one's school years, you come across a multitude of teachers. Very few actually stand out. Mr. Gorski stands out like a sore thumb as one of the most awesome teachers. I wasn't a big fan of English, nor was I anywhere near a perfect student, however, Mr. Gorski accepted that and was constantly pushing me to do my best no matter what I'm doing. He was such a kind, intelligent, gentle person. He will always be a 'sore thumb' to me. My only regret is that my children won't be able to experience his "lessons" not only in English but also in life...

Stan was my basketball coach at St. Hedwig's C.Y.O in the early days of his coaching career.
On Saturdays he would supervise the C.Y.O. practices at St. Joseph Grammar School.
He would allow me to 'hang around' and shoot hoops between the teams practices.
He would send me to the Red Arrow to pick up lunch and would always buy me a cheeseburger with fries!

Stan was a great coach, role model and inspired me and many kids to play sports, work hard and study in school.

A truly great human being- One of a Kind !

I am saddened to hear of the loss of probably the best teacher in the history of teachers. He not only taught English, but also how to live each day the best way you can. His laugh and his smile will forever be engrained in my memory. Although he was a humble man, I only hope he knew deep down inside how special he was and how he was so very admired, respected, and loved. God Bless you and your family.

I had Mr. Gorski back in the late 70's. My son will be a senior this year. I ran into Stan in the THS hallways several months ago and asked when he might retire. His response was "when I'm no longer breathing"...He was true to his word!...A great man who will be missed.

I attended Bishop Bradley HS from 09/64-06/68. Stan was one of my English teachers as well as on of my football coaches from 1965-1967. He was a great coach, teacher and a great guy. He came to one of our reunions. He will be missed.

He not only inspired students but teachers as well. I taught with him for 17 years and will never forget the gavel and the yell I could hear downstairs in my room. I would smile and tell my students, I guess they got the answer wrong. My thoughts are with Charlotte,Mary Grace, Dennis, Barbara, Betty, Karen, Joann, Caroline, Moe, Patty Jack Carol C. at this time. I know I forgot others dear to him. I believe they should be mentioned for it is a great loss to the ones who dealt closely with him. Trinity,s family will morn but the heavens will rejoice. That booming yet gentle voice will always be heard in our hearts.

God rest his soul. He was an amazing teacher and he will be missed. I hope his family will find comfort in all the thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts are with his daughter, Charlotte, who was born during (or soon after) my time at THS, as well as his family and friends.

I loved my time in his English class, his room filled to overflowing with books from all periods of literature. His kindness, intelligence and humor will always be remembered!

It was an absoulute privilege to sit in Mr. Gorski's class and be taught by the best. He made a special deal with me that if I got a certain grade in his class he would give me the Clint Eastwood poster off the wall in his classroom. Well, I got the grade and Mr. Gorski stuck to our deal and gave me the poster at the end of the year. I kept that poster for many years after that even through moves with it's tears and it falling apart. I will never forget him. What a wonderful man and an outstanding educator.

A tremendous loss to our family with the passing of Stan. I personally am going to miss our monthly telephone get togethers that we shared over the many years while he taught at Bradley/Trinity. Whenever I would come into contact with graduates from the school during their in-processing to the installation here at Fort Lewis, I would mention Stan's name to them and there was never a bad word mentioned about him or his teachings. In fact, one prior student told me that if he needed a brother in life, he would find someone like Stan to fill the void. We send our deepest condolences to his daughter Charolotte Rae and to his brother Richard on the loss of their loving father and brother and may his dearly departed soul rest in pace this day in the house of the Lord. To all other relatives and friends, I wish I could attend the services for Stan; however, family medical problems preclude traveling by air at this time. My two sisters, Phyllis and Sandra in California expressed their condolences to the family through me at this time and were in shock to learn of his passing. Stan is going to be missed by many especially all of the students that he had in his English classes over the 52 years at Bradley/Trinity and believe they have lost a true lifetime friend who will always be remembered during their growing years. Word is being sent to the missions in Africa of Stan's passing to a few teachers within the Christian Brother family who he had shared teaching assignments with over his years and the likes of Brother Brendan Foley, Brother Jerome Cox and former Brother Edmund Baldsdon will share my mail with others that I cannot reach. Pray for his departed soul and that he may begin a program in paradise for all of us when we arrive and hear his famous readings and writing of Chaucer. I found no one better in life who could recite from memory the beautiful works of Chaucer even into our 71 years of life. Yes, we were the same age and I am truly going to miss my "dearest and inspiring cousin."
