William Shutt Obituary

SOMERSWORTH - William J. Shutt, 64, died Sept. 15, 2011, after a courageous battle with metastatic cancer, surrounded by family members at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born July 3, 1947, in Brookline, Mass., the son of William T. Shutt of Bedford and the late Gertrude L. Shutt of Watertown, Mass.

He was raised in Brookline and resided there most of his life.

Mr. Shutt spent his professional life as a master carpenter and cabinet maker who created and built many furniture pieces, kitchens and living areas.

He enjoyed sailing, deep-sea fishing and all outdoor activities.

He is survived by a son, William C. Shutt of Somersworth; a daughter, Suzanne R. Gorhan of Henniker; four grandchildren, Nick and Jake Shutt, Colin and Avery Gorhan; four brothers, Dennis Shutt of Florida, Kevin Shutt of Manchester, Thomas and Timothy Shutt of Brookline; four sisters, Karen Hebert of Bedford, Diane Walsh Green of Hooksett, Marybeth Snow of Hollis and Theresa Faucher of Windsor, Conn. Other survivors include many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Gary M. Shutt.

SERVICES: A memorial service is Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. in Brookline Chapel, 36 Main St. (Route 130), Brookline. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
