URBANA – William Andrew Sturgell, 81 of Urbana, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024 in his home.
William was born on June 9, 1943 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the son of the late William and Gertrude (Schultes) Sturgell.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He worked at Navistar as a repairman for 44 years. He was full of life, quick-witted, well read, and very intelligent. He had a passion for making people laugh and he was well loved by his family and friends.
He always had some kind of interest or project going and mastered several hobbies throughout his life including computer programming and development, photography, woodworking, and writing. He was an incredible baseball player and coached his son for many years. He would impress his grandkids with his back flips off the diving board in his late sixties! He had a soft heart for animals and loved his pets dearly. He was also a huge OSU fan. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
William is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sheryl; daughters, Stephanie Sturgell, Shelly Sturgell, Susan (Steven) Gerrich; son, Cliff (Jamie) Sturgell; grandchildren, Camilly (Ryan), Sydney (Jacob), Christina, Patrick (Heather), Jessica, Cierra, Jayden, Carina, Catrina, Katleen, Rebecca; sisters, Connie Stoner, Debbie (Kenny) Cooke; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
William is preceded in death by his parents; niece, Kathe Wallace; brother-in-law, Ron Stoner; and great-niece, Marissa Pridemore.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, in VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio.
Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Spence. Guests are invited to dress casual or wear their favorite OSU gear to honor William.
