NEW HARTFORD - George W. Peck, 84, of New Hartford, died March 4, 2017, at home.
He was born April 2, 1932, in Middletown, NY, son of the late George V. and Ida Uebler Peck. He graduated from Vernon High School.
George married Carolyn Kitchen June 9, 1951, in Vernon. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
George was a Policeman for the Village of New Hartford for many years and then served as Chief of Police from 1975-1987. He drove school bus first for VVS School District and for New Hartford Central Schools.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Hartford, where he served as a Trustee for over 20 years; he was a member of Amicable Lodge #664 F & AM, New Hartford, and the Crystal Springs Golf League.
In addition to golf, George enjoyed playing cards with his regular card group, he enjoyed woodworking and leatherworking and loved to work outside in his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his daughter, Terry Drake, of Clark Mills; his son, Randy Peck, of Westmoreland; his grandchildren, who he worshiped, Kristen and David Szarek, of Westmoreland, Dawn Peck, of New Hartford, Heather Peck, of New Jersey, and Amanda Drake, of Clark Mills; his great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emma Szarek; his good friend, Susan Peck; and many special friends at First United Methodist Church, New Hartford. He also leaves behind his canine companion, Shelly. He was predeceased by a special son-in-law, Thomas Drake, and his good friends, Ronald Coleman and Bill Maxfield.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Hospice for all of their care and compassion, especially his nurses Lisa and Ashley.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 105 Genesee St., New Hartford. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon. Calling hours are on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Hartford, or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.
