Nicholas S. LaBella
Utica
Nicholas S. LaBella, 74, entered into eternal life on Friday, February 24, 2012, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with his loving family at his bedside. He was born the eldest son of Michael and Mary Comito LaBella and graduated from both Wetmore and Thomas R. Proctor High School. Nick graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College with a Mechanical Tech Degree. He went on to Oswego State College where he graduated with a B.S. and Master's Degree in Mechanical engineering. Nick was employed for many years as a mechanical engineer at Kelsey Hayes and he was last employed as a professor of Mechanical Engineering at Canton University, retiring in 1991. Nick was a wonderful son, brother, nephew, friend, and teacher, and he had an underlying kindness that touched many people. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou Cotton, Balston Spa, and Kathleen LaBella, of Utica; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Marsha LaBella, Utica; two aunts, Anne Balio, New Hartford, and Rose Comito, Utica; a special friend, David Treen, who was like a brother to Nick; and several loving cousins. Nick's funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father James Cesta. Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM at St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church on Tuesday morning. Interment will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The LaBella family is deeply appreciative of the kindness of their good neighbors, Bob and Mary Thomas, and a special thank you to Dr. William Ryan for his care and compassion. Donations in Nick's memory may be made to the Heifer International, PO Box 6021, Albert Lea, MN 56007, or St. Labre Indian School, PO Box 216, Ashland, MT 59003. Michael, sorry to hear about your brother Nick. Happy so see that you did get married afterall and hope that you are happy. Thought I saw you driving a Uhal truck past my toll booth in Florida going down toward Tampa. You must have a twin brother! I am living in Central Florida now.My folks house is for sale on Mary St as they both passed and Im down in florida. Again, sorry to hear about Nick and say Hello to your sisters for me.
