Abel Davila

Harlingen, TX - Abel Davila, age 87, of Harlingen, Texas left this world to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 13, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 13, 1934, in Harlingen, TX to Tomas Davila and Rosa Rodriguez.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elva Davila; and daughter Viviana Davila and granddaughter, Delilah. At 15 years of age, Abel left home for Chicago. Years later he came down to South Texas and fate brought him to the love of his life, Elva, while working for her father. They were married for 59 years.

The greatest joy of his life was providing for his wife and doting on his daughters, Betty, Viola, Viviana, and Velia.

He also enjoyed providing for his grandchildren, Itzel, Danny, Kristin, Monet, Luke, and Leah, especially attending their dance recitals, school activities and the Harlingen Cardinal football and soccer games.

Abel worked in various aspects of ranching in South Texas with 18 years at The King Ranch, owning and operating his own trucking and hauling company.

He was a faithful member of Queen of Peace, St. Francis Xavier, and St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Abel leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, his loving daughters, Betty Montez (Daniel), Viola Lucio (Roberto) and Velia Angell (Robert H.); grandchildren, Itzel Montez (Jose), Daniel Montez (Brittany), Kristin Montez (Leo), Luke Lucio (Amanda), Leah Lucio, and Monet Angell (fiance, Todd); great grandchildren, Ian Gonzales, Aidan Gonzales, Cameron Camero, Lincoln Lucio, Eleanor Lucio, and William Montez; brothers, Israel Davila (Edith) and Joel Davila (Maria); and sister, Lydia Castillo (Humberto);.

Public viewing will begin at 11 am to 4 pm, today, Tuesday, August 16, 2022; due to the COVID-19 pandemic the family request a private service of the Holy Rosary. All are welcome to the Celebration of Abel's Life on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 2 pm at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Luke Lucio, Roberto Lucio, Daniel Montez, Leo Garza, Joe Camero, Ian Gonzales, and Aidan Gonzales.
