Alice Jane Bax

Harlingen - Alice J. Bax (previously Sturm), 88, of Harlingen, Texas died Thursday, January 16, 2025, at VBMC. Alice touched many lives in in the area through her 20 years of work as a child-life worker in the pediatric department at Valley Baptist Medical Center. She helped kids and families feel more comfortable during their hospitals stays. After retirement she became very active in the birding community with her husband, John Bax. She was a long-time member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Harlingen, 1st United Methodist Church of Port Isabel, and most recently Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church of Harlingen after she moved into Golden Palms Retirement Center in summer of 2021. She volunteered with food pantries, youth programs and the service sorority Kappa Mu chapter of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha service sorority and was a caring friend to everyone she met.

Alice was a dear sister to Susan and Eileen, a loving wife to John Bax, a devoted mother to James, Tim, and Jennifer and their spouses. She enjoyed being a grandmother to seven and great-grandmother to two. She is also fondly remembered by her stepsons, John, Leo, Joe, Emile and their spouses.

A memorial service will be planned for Sunday, January 26,2025 at 2:00 pm at Golden Palms Rehabilitation and Retirement in the Texas Room.
