Susan Mattson Obituary
Sue was born May 2, 1946, in Dobbs Ferry, New York to Norman "Del" and Emma "Lee" DeLanoy. She met her husband, Dave, at Grove City College. They married in 1967 before he was sent to Korea with the Army.
After graduating from college in 1968, Sue moved to Venice, Florida with her retiring parents. Upon Dave's return to the States, the couple moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and took a trip across the US with their first cat, Toby.
Sue and Dave lived in New Jersey before returning permanently to Venice in 1975 to raise their family near Sue's parents. Sue returned to school for a teaching degree and helped found Venice Christian School in 1987. Throughout twenty-five years of teaching 1 st grade and serving as vice principal, Sue remained dedicated to her students. She taught an entire generation to read, including four of her grandchildren.
She traveled to Canada, England, Guatemala, Israel twice, the Republic of Georgia, and Scandinavia. She enjoyed reading and scrapbooking. In 2022, she and Dave traveled to Texas to be "extras" in the Feeding of the Five Thousand episode of The Chosen.
Sue was a member of Coastal Community Church.
Sue is survived by her husband, Dave, her children, Karen (Carlyle) Stull of Venice, Florida, Pamela (Joe) Ferreira of Venice, Florida, and Peter (Emily) Mattson of Orlando, Florida, her younger brother, David (Cathy) DeLanoy, nine grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Sue's life was embodied by the Fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She impacted so many as the joy of the Lord radiated from her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 27 at 10:30 am at Coastal Community Church, 1101 Tamiami Trail, Suite 112, Venice, Florida 34285.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 30 at 10 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1301 Center Road, Venice, FL 34292.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Venice Christian School in memory of Sue.

Sue was my friend and she was so very kind to me. I Met both her and her husband Dave at Venice Bible Church. She was very knowledgeable on just about any matter I asked questions about, especially the Bible, I guess this was the teacher in her. I will miss her, she was a bright beacon of light in this dismal world as we know it but shines brightest at the hand of Our Father. My heartfelt condolences to Dave, Children and Grandchildren.
