Angelo P. Calfo passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, surrounded by the family he so loved, at his home in Thousand Oaks.
Mr. Calfo was born in 1934 to Angelo and Angelina Calfo in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a boy, he worked in his family's grocery store in Salt Lake and attended Judge Memorial High School. He graduated in 1956 from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., majoring in Philosophy and English. While attending Creighton, Angelo met his future wife, Frances Artzer. They were married in 1956 at Saint James Catholic Church in her home town of Denver, Colo.
After serving in the U.S. Army at Fort McClellan, Ala., Angelo returned, with his wife, to Denver where they started a family and he began his remarkable 43-year career with the pharmaceutical company Hoffman La Roche. In 1966, Angelo and his family moved to Southern California where he became a division, then regional, sales manager.
He also became an active parishioner at Saint Mel's Catholic Church in Woodland Hills, and later at Saint Paschal Baylon in Thousand Oaks. His children attended Louisville, Crespi and El Camino Real High Schools in the San Fernando Valley. Angelo was dearly loved and respected by the friends and family that he cared for so much throughout his life, and with whom he loved to celebrate, sing and worship.
He retired in 2004, having received numerous honors and achievement awards during his tenure at Hoffman La Roche. He was honored with a special tribute to his accomplished career at a retirement gathering in Tucson, Ariz. His wife and nine children were flown in to surprise him at the "Calfo Town" celebration where they, along with Angelo's colleagues, recognized him for his continued vision, hard work, and principled leadership.
He is survived by his wife, and children : Cathy Calfo of Santa Cruz; Carolyn Moebest and her husband Willard Moebest of San Diego; Angelo J. Calfo and his wife Patricia Joyce of Seattle, Wash.; Mary Burns and her husband Thomas Burns of Camarillo; Alexander Calfo and his wife Beatrice Calfo of Los Angeles; Paula Green and her husband Thomas Greene of West Hills; Frances Calfo and her husband Trent Jones of Santa Monica; Anthony Calfo and his wife Cristen of Moorpark; and, Jennifer Sutton and her husband Richard Sutton of Moorpark. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Calfo of Salt Lake City and 33 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 14 at Saint Paschal Baylon Church, 155 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.
The family requests that donations, in lieu of flowers, be sent to Mary Health of the Sick, 2929 Theresa Drive, Newbury Park, CA 91320.

I don't know how to begin. The sorrow you feel when you lose a husband or parent is enormous, but the strength you gain from God out-weighs all. May you find the love of family and friends sharing memories be a source of joy in this time.
Your family has no idea how your love and caring affected your neighbors.
A long time ago in Woodland Hills you acceptd the Loren Family into your hearts.
God bless all of you..

I'm so sorry for your loss. You don't know me and Angelo probably wouldn't remember me. I am Mary Fuoco's daughter. Angelo's mother was my Great-Aunt Angelina. I just wanted to express my condolences and wish I could have know him better since we actually lived pretty close.

Dearest Fran and all the family,
What a beautiful service and a beautiful family. Angelo was truly a great example of love, strength, vitality, and dedication--a strong tree with deep solid roots--a tree that produced beautiful fruit.
All of us at Mary Health are better people for having known the Calfo family. Thank you for being part of the Mary Health family and allowing us the opportunity to share in yours.
Fran, your mother would be so proud of you. You are everything a woman, wife, and mother should be. You, too, came from good roots. How lucky your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are. How lucky I am, also, to have known you.

Dearest Mary, Calfo Family & especially Fran--
My heart goes out to you all for your loss. You opened your hearts and home to me when I felt like a lost kid. It was great to just disappear into the family fold. In fact, almost literally.
My fondest memory is of the time your Dad, King of the Castle, looked over at me at your dinner table and asked in all seriousness, "Are you one of mine?" I'll never forget his kindnesses.
Fondly,

Dear Calfo Family, Ange hired me as a specialty care manager with Roche and I'll never forget the opportunity he gave me. I was there during the retirement party and seeing him with many of you brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful man. May his legacy be carried by you all with pride, love, joy and optimism.

Fran and family,
Our hearts are saddened and we extend our condolences. Bob and I both remember Ange fondly. I worked with Ange for many years. While there were always business objectives to accomplish or training or the never ending paper work, Ange always brought forth that we were people first. We watched each other's family grow, worked through a changing world and had some laughs. Ange will be missed but we will hold the memories dear to us.
